Why do people still pretend the RPI has that much weight? It just doesn't. The only reason it even gets discussed is in relation to your opponent's RPI (Top 50 / Top 100 wins). Do we really care that much about buttressing our opponent's resumes to waste everyone's time on the court and everyone's money in the stands?

Until they replace it with something different, RPI absolutely will have a lot of weight..

And it actually will have more weight this year with the changes they made....

tier 1 games now instead of being just top 50 period is
top 30 home games
top 75 away games
top 50 neutral games

tier 2 games are
31-75 home games
76-135 away games
51-100 neutral games

tier 3 games are
76-160 home games
136-240 away games
101-200 neutral games

tier 4 games are
161-351 home games
241-351 away games
201-351 neutral games

I don't think folks realize just how huge that's going to be.

And the thing for St John's- if they weren't playing Molloy, they would be playing a lower tier D1 team. They need the home dates. For Joe Shmoe, there isn't that much difference in playing Molloy or playing Maine. But in RPI terms, it is a huge difference.

Marquette facing a weaker VCU team than in past years. Good chance for a Warrior win. What's with the "Maui Jim Maui" Invitational semantics anyway? Should call it the "Maui Invitational sponsored by Maui Jim". Speaking of which, I've never tried their polarized sunglasses. The game of course is on Maui, in the village of Lahaina... can anyone name the old song whose lyrics include references to both Providence and Lahaina...?

I think the most important game of the day. 1st round games in these 8 team tournaments are just huge. The difference for Marquette is stark in all likelyhood.

win and guaranteed 2 tier 1 games. lose, and not guaranteed even 1. The SOS difference is really large. I do think eventually your going to see schools moving away from these 8 team tournaments in large form and moving to the 4 team tournaments like we see Creighton having today. Where not a huge SOS difference if you win or lose your 1st game.

I believe we originally scheduled a real team and they pulled out at the last second so we were scrambling. Not sure if that's true, just what I've heard. Either way, get the easy W and get a nice sendoff at 4-0. This Advocare Tournament will really tell us where this team is at. We already trounced Nebraska but if we can somehow win the Advocare Tourney it will go a long way towards bringing us back to relevance. Historically we do not perform well in these in-season tourneys and either lose right away or very early. If Porter is not playing which is the rumor from Mizzou, I don't see how we don't have the most talented team in the tournament. It will not be easy but if we can win it we should at worst be receiving votes for the top 25 headed into our matchup with Sacred Heart. Not to get too far ahead, but you can't help but expect that with the way the team's been playing. It looks like the pieces are finally meshing and the roles are more clear. Let's hope we do well in the tourney, we are overdue to go on a run and win one of these.
