Taurean Thompson to SHU

Postby Hall2012 » Mon Aug 28, 2017 1:50 pm

Taurean Thompson has withdrawn from school at Syracuse and is apparently on campus at Seton Hall today, planning to announce his transfer within the week. Not sure if he's been officially released from Syracuse. His apparent reason for the transfer is "family health issues" and with that he will also week a waiver from the NCAA to be able to play immediately.

I'm well aware, but keep seeing suggestions that he's going to try to be immediately eligible. Not sure how it would be and at this point I tend to doubt it'll be successful. I'm just repeating what I'm seeing.

This will be much needed frontcourt help for the 18-19 season, when the entire starting frontcourt will be gone. Does Darnell Brodie taking the post grad year route before enrolling next year, coincide with this decision?

The thought of possibly being immediately eligible seems to be coming from a rumor that he was never actually on an athletic scholarship at Syracuse, thus making him eligible the "One-Time Transfer Exception." The problem is, another requirement of that rule for D1 basketball is that the player was never recruited by the school he's leaving. He certainly was recruited by Syracuse, so unless there's another rule I'm unaware of that makes non-scholarship athletes still eligible for hardship waivers, I don't see how this gets done.

That said, I can't say I really have a problem with him sitting out a year. Sure, Thompson and Delgado together would make Seton Hall's frontcourt ridiculous this year, but will they have enough balls and playing time to go around? What this transfer really does in my opinion, is prevent a major drop-off next season.

It's hard to say, but I'd guess the staff at least new Thompson was a possibility when they decided to have Brodie prep a year. To me, it makes sense as he wasn't going to get any sort of significant playing time anyway. Perhaps the Thompson possibility is why they went with a prep year instead of a redshirt year.

If true, nice pickup for the Pirates. Would help this year, no doubt, but I would guess he needs to sit out. We will see.

Taurean my boy...

Why on Gods' green earth would Anyone in their right mind, Leave the lovely Jimmy Boeheim and cheatin' _ss S'cuse? It's been called "God's Country by a few. The stinking hoards of loud, obnoxious, and gaudy orange-clad lemmings...wallowing about nose-to-_ss with one another, aimlessly invading NCAA gyms like they own the place. It took 2 weeks to wash their stench out of Tampa when we encountered them a few years back. They are worse than 7 year cicadas.

Good move Taurean, Now wash up and don't forget to wash your socks and jocks too...Syracuse, lol. ;)

I'm confused as to why he wouldn't sit out. Transfers sit a year. Pretty simple.

Usually yes, but there are a few exceptions excepted on a case by case basis by the NCAA. Usually related to family issues and leaving a previous team's which is noted to have a toxic situation.
