Current Big East Credits

So here is the breakdown of total credits by year the Big East has accumulated and the approzimate value to the conference. Recall that part of the separation deal with the old Big East was that the Catholic 7 would retain it's NCAA credits. So here is where we are:

2008: 7
2009: 6
2010: 4
2011: 6
2012: 5
2013: 6
post realignment
2014: 6
2015: 11
2016: 12
2017: 13

So the total number of NCAA credits earned by the BEast is 76. If we use a conservative number of $1.5 million value per credit over the six year payment period, we are looking at a minimum amount of $114,000,000 in NCAA credits. I do not know what the split is as the old big east did not plait evenly. But assuming it does split evenly, and that the conference office takes a share as was done in the past, the schools have earned so far $10,363,636.40 each (not all paid out yet as it is a six year payment cycle). Not to bad.

So the conference is doing fairly well by this account (an avg of 10.5 shares annually). Although total annual shares are an amalgam of bids-seeds-games...I feel we can and will do better as we move ahead. Perhaps someone bright and energetic will do a State of the BE (after 4 years), and perhaps also do a comparative breakdown between the Highlight years of the 16 team conference against the current state of affairs.

Go Zags! ;)

NCAA Credits earned by Big East teams since conference reconfiguration:

Villanova 11
Xavier 10
Butler 7
Providence 5
Creighton 3
Georgetown 2
Seton Hall 2
Marquette 1
St. John's 1
DePaul 0

Not good for the "legacy" Big East members. Hopefully for Nova, Xavier and Butler's sake the units are distributed equally among all members regardless of which school earned them.

They're not distributed evenly. It's unknown how they're distributed as far as I know. Hopefully it's not something ridiculous like A10's 75/25.

In the old Big East they were not distributed evenly, but that might have changed with the new formation. I've seen nothing to suggest anything regarding this.

The Catholic 7 gave up all of their old NCAA credits in the deal. Cincinnati, UCONN, and South Florida reap the benefits from them.

It appears the C7 (& ND) negotiated to keep their NCAA units while "helping" the AAC by not disbanding the old conference. Would have screwed the AAC royally had the old conference disbanded. You recall that S'cuse, ND, Pitt, as well as the C7 all left in 2013, and would have dropped original membership down to 5 schools. The AAC would have lost all its' resources. The AAC may receive those units (as a non-disbanded conference), but as per the agreement with the C7 they forward those funds to the Big East. Or so it appears.

Seems like the new Big East got the NCAA credits for maybe one year. Here is what the new Big East received in NCAA credits for the years ending June 30:

2014 = $10,969,746
2015 = $4,185,882

There are no other revenue buckets that would indicate revenues transferred from the AAC.
