getting 8 in would be extremely difficult.

looking there are 11 conferences with 10 teams.... here's the records of their 8th place teams in conference play...
6-12 b12
7-11 be
7-11 BS
7-11 CAA
5-13 Hor
6-12 MVC
8-10 NEC
6-12 Pat
4-14 Sou
6-12 SWAC
5-13 WCC

the only one with 8 wins is the NEC. Looking they had a 3 way tie for 5th at 9-9. So in that scenario for all 4 teams to get in, all 4 would have had to have had a good OOC season.

(1) Creighton without Patton is still clearly a top half team in the league, and (2) Xavier without Blueitt will ONLY have 4 returning starters and ONLY 4 4-star recruits coming in. The Hoyas will have ....... hope. You probably got DePaul right though.

Regarding your point on Xavier I remember a Marquette team that went to the Elite 8 and had four starters coming back and a top 10 recruiting class coming in picked first in this new league... didn't work out too well for us so if I were you I'd never count my chickens before they hatch.

All that being said, MUBoxer, I would guess that 9 other schools in the Big East would feel pretty good about going into an up-coming season with that type of roster (and Xavier is still not finished filling it out), Marquette's history notwithstanding!

It virtually has to go off perfectly to happen. You pretty much need two teams that are god-awful and can't beat anyone but each other, and everyone else near the middle. And you need whomever that 8-10 or last 9-9 team is to have a good non-con profile.

That said, the Big 12 got close a few years ago. It's not impossible, but you pretty much need everything to break just right.

well for the NEC- you had a 3 way tie at 9-9 for 5-7th place. Then 8-10 at 8th place. in that scenario, you would need all 4 of those teams to have had a good OOC schedule and performance.

I think a NEC from this year would be the path to 8 spots. Just looking last year- only the NEC again last year and Patriot last year had 8-10 8th place teams. Patriot had an even more dangerous set up- had a 4 way tie at 9-9 for 4th place. There you would need all 5 teams to have had good OOC's.

It pretty much went perfect this year getting 7 in. X and Creighton had really great rpis in nonconference and then pretty much the rest of the Big East fed off of them during the conference schedule.

Yep, the Creighton and Xavier injuries to key players, after both teams had compiled great OOC results, was probably what it took to get 7 of our teams into the dance. With 10 in the league of our current strength, 5 in the dance would probably be the most common outcome, with 6 happening maybe a quarter or a third of the time, and 7 being really rare.

Tough, tough list to put together.... so many established guys that could show up higher (Howard) and some new talent as well (scruggs, ashton-langford, samuels, et al). Good run at it, but I do think Mikal Bridges will be on there by year end.

The list shows how much talent is returning. It's def a tough one to put together. For me replace Bullock with Cartwright, Divincenzo with Bridges and Cain with K Thomas. I would prob put Baldwin ahead of Lovett too.
