He really is a dumbass!! How in the world do you rate a conference below the SEC and Pac 10 when we have consistently performed better than those two conferences since our formation? Is it because we don't play D-1 football? What other reason could there be to support this theory. He clearly has some sort of an agenda and doesn't care that the facts don't come close to supporting his very stupid position. He is being dishonest and can't bring himself to acknowledge the truth!!DudeAnon wrote:EMT wrote:Our buddy Doug Gottleib was referring to the Big East as a high mid major in a class by themselves but below ther P5 today on the DP Show.

ACC: 12
B1G: 8
Pac12: 7
Big12: 7
SEC: 5
Big East: 2
That's the number of teams that made the 2nd weekend of the tournament by conference. Fair or not, this is our last hurdle in terms of on-court performance. Gottlieb's just plays the devil's advocate role in lots of issues, though.

His rationale is resources. That Indiana will always have more resources than Butler but he was totally off base bringing facilities into it.
The Omaha Sports press has been saying that about Creighton and Nebraska for 20 years. State school, state money, big resources, football- can't compete. They have been proven wrong and are the last ones on Creighton bandwagon. Also, March Madness time, and Big East Final, and what we get locally on P. 1 is a picture of some Nebraska football kid in a big picture, and (thank you very much) we have a color picture on p.3 with article. It's March and every day -football. Thank goodness for the Big East where we don't have to rely on local coverage. sorry I don't cut and paste well. I should work for the OWH.

I appreciate that sweet 16 appearances are nice, but they can't be the only metric to gauge the success or status of a conference. How many of the above conferences have won a NC since we formed 4 years ago. That is the ultimate goal, but should be just one metric of analysis. RPI, sweet 16 teams, overall teams in the tournament, and national championships among other things should all be used to measure the overall success of a conference. By all the metrics, we are not a "high mid-major" below the football 5 conferences in status or overall performance. Gottleib is just wrong.kayako wrote:jfan wrote:He really is a dumbass!!
