They need to first make the Final Four or better, and then sustain that success.

Not that I am dying to add them, but that's exactly what Wichita State and VCU is doing?

The scary thing about Creighton, Xavier, and Butler is that their recruiting is just getting amped up. They still have players recruited from mid-major years playing, and as that gets flushed out and replaced with higher ranked recruits...

As for next year, I think Nova is still the top dog in the conference, but I expect stiff challenge.

Along those same lines, Seton Hall could be that team next year with two big IFS: Delgado stays for his senior year and Trevon Duval commits. That would give the Pirates a starting 5 of 4 seniors and a surefire 1-and-done lottery pick point guard. Duval, Carrington, Rodriguez, Sanogo, Delgado.

Anyone think Willard will exit after the season if SH has a big year in 2018? Teams that lose five starters tend to fall off the next year unless they're named Kentucky, or Duke.

On his own to take another job? Possibly. But he certainly won't be fired. Heck, it's unlikely he'll get fired if he gets that team and doesn't win a game. The guy's pretty much guaranteed a job for life.

How often does a PAC-12 team win it all? How often does B10 team win it all? or a SEC team besides Kentucky? Even a B12 team? Those are still strong conference and respected.

At the end of the day... the B.E has demonstrated it will continue to be in the running as the best college basketball conference... very least TOP 3. That is unlikely to change

Nobody is talking about an inferiority complex. I want to see the conference be THE top in the nation, and to do that we need multiple national powers. This is about being the best, not trying to be on the same level as the PAC-12 or whatever.

So far, we've pretty consistently been top 3/4. That's great obviously, but why not aim to be even better?

They got to their current national prestige by doing that, but they need to prove they're a power. For VCU, it's been six years (first FF in history) and Wichita it's been 4 (second in history). VCU in fact only has ONE Sweet 16 despite all their recent success. National powers win championships and go to the FF more consistently.

Best case would obviously be for these schools to do what Nova did last year. In that case I don't think the Big East could/should say no.

I might be wrong but didn't Creighton turn down Cane Broome for Joseph?

Some BE schools have less FF than either. Granted, these two teams havnt done much the last few years but it seems you are moving the field goal for different teams
