If you have your starters in the game and are still playing to win, don't expect McDermott to put our bench in -- Particularly given the difference in athleticism between our 1-5 and our 6-10.

Fair enough, wasn't a huge deal just curious. I forgot you blew a 14 pt lead in 2:30 last yr. I was glad that one of your guys who looked injured (Watson?) turned out to be fine. By the way, they really need to replace the rims at Carnesecca...like seriously. For both teams there were many bricks. This is a constant theme...if the ball even sniffs the rim it will fly off of it. The hoops at MSG seem to be way softer and more forgiving. Anyone else notice this?

I wonder what they'll say about JT3 if Wright sucks

I hope Butler players are thick skinned, because they can expect outright twisted chants when they visit next month

I did notice that the rims seemed "firm." I do remember the announcers commenting about the number of times SJU had balls that looked like they went halfway down and came back out.

As a Creighton fan, I did not see the officiating being lopsided or the announcers commenting on such. Given the total fouls were 17-14 and the only reason more were called on SJU is because of the "end of the game, send them to the line" fouls. I am sure you remember and can point to times where your guys got jobbed. I could do the same...for example, before one of the commercial breaks they showed Khyri Thomas breaking to the hoop for a lay up and another breaking to the hoop where he dished for an assist to show his impact on a good stretch by the Jays. In both plays, an SJU player threw a shoulder into him. Not a brush by or a touch foul, but actually threw a shoulder into him that altered his path. No foul was called either time. In addition, the only player to foul out was one of our guys, who also happened to be the most dominant player on the floor last night. From where I sit, the refs let them play a very physical game.

Some more love from Katz:

Can't say it enough: Big East hit a home run with additions of Butler, Xavier and Creighton. Winners. Atmosphere.

Not sure why you Nova fan(s) are upset about Butler students chanting "Jay Wright sucks". That's what 18-22 year old college kids do. So what? It didn't seem to phase the Nova players at all, and since the crowd is always trying to rattle the opponent, the chant fell on deaf ears. Except the ears of some fans who watched on TV and act outraged. It will be fun to hear what Nova's students come up with as a retort when the Dawgs play in Philly.

Now regarding Jay's 'occasional' outbursts at the officials, is that the norm? I never thought of Jay as a hot-headed coach, but at last Saturday's CU game, he started yelling/screaming at the refs beginning about two minutes into the game. He continued on/off for the rest of the game. The. Entire. Game. I sit behind the visitor's bench and was captivated by it. If Watson/Thomas penetrated with the dribble and scored, he came unglued at his players. Both halves. I really hadn't seen that before. What was truly amazing was that on three separate occasions, he screamed an F-bomb at the refs! "That was a f---ing foul" Once the ref didn't acknowledge him. Once the ref looking at him just turned away, and once the ref told him to back it down a little. This comes from a friend of mine who was running stats and sat about 10 feet from JW the entire game. Is this typical of his style? My guess is most coaches don't get that kind of rope from the refs. Nice to be the coach of the defending NC. Hard to imaging McD ever getting to that point.

My comments have nothing to do with the outcome of the game. Nova is still the standard bearer for the BEast. They were solid on both sides of the ball. Handled CU's offensive bursts without panic. Made great plays when they needed to--Brunson's performance was beautiful unless you were a Jays fan. Hit free throws down the stretch. Rebounded like crazy (outrebounded CU 37-22). The list goes on. Tougher throughout but especially at the end. Very impressive performance considering the crowd was 'on' all game. I thought McD made a mistake by only playing seven guys. We looked tired at the end. I realize Nova is in a similar position, and I think it will hurt both teams going forward not to have depth.

Eh, when you are also a ranked team, it's not as momentous. I get the celebration, but this isn't a huge upset on Butler's home court.

Personally, I agree. I was hoping the students wouldn't storm the court - but they let me down. Had the Dawgs hit a buzzer-beater, sure storm the court. But running the clock down, up by 8 - it just seems forced.

I was also a little embarrassed to hear the students chanting "Jay Wright Sucks." Not only is it bush league, but it's just inaccurate.

I think some of you have lost touch with college and the days of having fun as a student. The students like to have a good time at the game. Jay Wright got pissed off and got a T for arguing a call that was correct. You can see how the students can go wild and start chanting out "Jay Wright sucks" for the fun of it. Rushing the court is also something that students and alumni/outsider-fans see from different POVs. Students don't care if Butler has gone to two NC games or whether its one of the best programs in the NCAA. All they care is that they beat the defending National champions/#1 team/undefeated in over 20 games in their house for only the second time ever in Butler history. That sounds like good old fun to me

I'm four years removed from college but I still love those days. I wish I could go back! lol

Only one Nova fan said anything about it, so yes all of us were upset about it. Check the thread it was fans of other BE schools making a bigger deal about it. Personally, something like "shut up pretty boy" would've been more creative and original.

Yes now Jay is a hot head, because it got he's first T since, well ... I don't know when. Jay works the officials, but if you think he's some sort of hot-head, what would you call Frank Martin, Boehiem, coach K, Huggy Bear, Pitino, ...?
