It's close but hard to beat Nebraska for that trophy. They have a brand new arena, huge football $$, local media support and they still suck. Have lost at home to Incarnate Word, Samford, and Gardner Webb the past 3 years. Huskers have NEVER won an NCAA tournament game. NEVER.

Futility, thy name is Nebraska hoops.

just for fun- looking at the last 3 years plus this year so far....

DePaul 40-69. 29-27 home, 11-42 road/neutral
Nebraska 54-55. 40-17 home, 14-38 road/neutral

I think the real candidate for worst program in the country- is Nebraska conference-mate Rutgers. Even with the start this season, they're 40-70. 31-31 home, 9-39 road/neutral. And for gosh sakes as folks know- in all the time in the old Big East, they never made the NCAA tourney.

Look at the last 100 years. It's Nebraska by a mile.

Not really...
Rutgers 6 NCAA appearances
Nebraska 7 NCAA appearances

and more damning. Rutgers was in the Big East and never sniffed NCAA tourney.

Yes, considering conference, resources, location, exposure and opportunity to be successful, DePaul should be considered one of the worst programs in the country. If you had to grade each program's success since getting invited into the Big East, Xavier, Butler and Creighton would all get A's. Marquette would also probably get an A, since we have 8 tournament appearances, 2 regular season BE championships, 3 Sweet 16's and an Elite Eight appearance since joining the league in 2005. Cincinnati did very well while in the Big East, and even US freakin' F made the NCAA Tournament while in the Big East (2012) - and they have only had three NCAA tournament appearances all time.

DePaul has not made a single NCAA tournament while in the Big East. They have had only one winning season during that time. They have had double digit conference losses every year except one. No one shows up to their games. They now have had three consecutive coaches that are just awful - Wainwright, Purnell and now Leitao again.

The reality is that they have an administration that cannot make good decisions regarding basketball, and an administration that has grown content with losing results. Until DePaul decides to dismiss Jean Lenti-Ponsetto, who is proven to be incompetent and foolish with regards to men's basketball, and get a coaching staff that is not bound by who someone's father is on the team or is able to actually recruit Chicago - something the new stadium has not changed one bit - we will continue to have this program drag down the conference both now and long-term.

The Big East should be a conference where every team is strong entering conference play. Since we don't have football, we shouldn't have the burden of having a team dragging down the rest because they are strong in another sport. If you cannot display that you are both committed and proven to be successful and competitive men's basketball nationally, you have no business being in the Big East.

St John's by 33 over Syracuse
Providence losing by 20 to BC

Cuse loses at home. BC wins at home. You're the #s guy. You tell us.

I get that but... just look at Ken Pom.....
before the games
St John's was 136, Syracuse was 30 so delta was 106
BC was 216, Providence was 52 so delta was 164

Ok, I get you originally posted that mid game where the outcome wasn't final, but now that it is how is this even a question still?

BC won by 12, at home.
Cuse lost by 33, at home.

One was a historic loss. Literally largest margin for a Carrier Dome game in Syracuse history.

Providence was favored by 10.
Cuse was favored by 13.

Providence game was a 22 point swing.
St. John's game was a 46 point swing.

No need to stir the pot when the two results aren't comparable, at all.

It's hard to top Northwestern in futility. Close to 50 years in the Big Ten and never had a winning conference record.

my thing was how bad BC was going into this. I mean- much worse quite frankly than St John's(and that's tough to do this year). And I thought much more of Providence than I did Syracuse.

I will say it shows how good of a coach Cooley is that PC didn't let it get to 30 points there. They got it back to what 8?

That makes absolutely no sense. It treats the ranking as if it's an equal interval scale. But it's not! A complete misuse of statistics.

Why did you ask the question in the first place if you already had the answer up your sleeve, Steve? Just trolling?

Road vs. home is a pretty extreme swing.

If Stever is already referencing Kenpom for a comparison, it should be pretty easy to look at the initial win probabilities. Syracuse had a 91.8% win probability and Providence had a 78% win probability. And, Syracuse lost by a lot more.
