Thanks Gumby. Gumby's point irt "making the case" for who(m) (teams) you think should be ahead of Creighton is spot on. Make your case please.

SOS and RPI may well rise dependent upon the play of both past and future opponents this season. Projections are just that - projections (guesses).

If CU stays its' current course or the bottom falls out - these current projections are meaningless.

I'll use CBS ranking as an example. #1 SOS is Nebraska at 4 wins and 5 loses. so what the heck are we talking about here?

So who exactly from Creighton's schedule is going to be a surefire NCAA tourney team? Right now they have 1.

Give me Butler's schedule any day of the week. And if they beat Indiana, I'll take Butler at 11-1 with wins over Arizona, Indiana, Cincy, Northwestern, and Utah any day of the week over Creighton at 12-0(remember D2 Truman St doesn't count)- with a win over Wisconsin. What's their next best win? NC State(in a game that would get discounted due to who was missing for NC State)? Plain W/L record just isn't an absolute determinant for me. Hopefully McDermott will actually start to schedule tougher next year.

Creighton's mediocre OOC is going to hurt their seeding come postseason, unless Creighton goes like 16-2 or something like that in the conference.

And Butler's great OOC is going to really help them out come postseason.

Creighton's schedule isnt great but its smarter than it was last year. Only one real dog (300+ rpi team = longwood). Couple of MAC favorites and it will turn out to be 6 games against F5 teams. U compare to Butler, they've beaten two sure NCAA teams in Arizona (depleted with no Trier) and Cincy while Creighton has beaten Wisky (probably best of the 3) and hasnt lost to Indiana State...

It's interesting that you discount Creighton's win over NC State because of "who was missing" but don't do the same for Butler's win over Arizona. Just asking for some integrity in the argument.

And you are stating that the number 10 team on the list should be ahead of the number 7 team. Does that really change anything? Kudos to Butler for their schedule. But you harp on one surefire tournament team for Creighton. Butler has two right? Since they actually haven't beaten Indiana yet, they have wins over Arizona and Cincy. Northwestern (never actually been in NCAA tournament) and Utah (X and Butler are the only two good teams in their nonconference skedy and they lost both games) are hardly locks. Doesn't NC State's and Ole Miss' RPI compare favorably to those two right now? I have no idea...just thinking out loud.

As others have stated, we also don't have a loss to Indiana State on our resume. The same Indiana State that lost to Northern Illinois, Quinnipiac, and Western KY (in addition to Iowa State and Stanford). I am pretty sure that's why Butler is #10 on this list instead of in the top 5.

Aren't we splitting hairs a bit, Stever? Yes, CU's OOC SOS would be 4th in the BEast (#1 RPI conference, most likely), but if the #17 you include indicates that would be their national OOC SOS, isn't that pretty good? There are over 350 D1 teams, so to have four BEast teams in the top 17 seems great to me. You're right that our OOC SOS wouldn't be as helpful, seeding-wise, as Butler's would be for their seeding, but so what?

The committee doesn't just use RPI, KP, or any one tool. If CU beats ORU and ASU (true road game) and goes 14-4 in the top conference, they'll be 26-4 with several top 50/100 wins (and probably not a single bad loss). Let's say the Jays split with the other top 4 BEast teams (Nova, X, Butler and Prov/SH/Marq). There would be no sub-100 losses on that resume and only five sub-200 wins (SJ and DePaul twice each and Longwood).

That sounds like a resume for a pretty high seed in the eyes of the committee. You're the one who always says that the committee ranks teams, not conferences. If CU goes 14-4, what are the records of Nova, X, Butler, etc.? So when compared to each other, BEast teams would have OOC SOS differences as well as head to head results, but when compared to the other tourney teams, they should sit well. If we both go 14-4 in conference, I don't think you'll hear Jays fans complain if we get a two seed but Butler got a one seed because we went 12-0 vs their 11-1 OOC.

What is the argument about again? I'm confused.

Creighton at 26-4 would have a rpi projected of 9.6
Butler at 25-5 would have a rpi projected of 5.5

So Butler would be looking at more of a 1 or 2 seed, while Creighton would be more like a 2 or 3 seed...

The #17 that I said would be their OOC RPI. Their OOC SOS is projected around 180.

Also would have more sub-200 wins than you think. The 5 that you mention(maybe- St John's might not)- but add though Wash St, Loyola, and Oral Roberts.

My point with Creighton is they're more of an unknown than the other 3. Their OOC schedule hasn't been as good as the other 3.

Board Ops -

I think it would be helpful if instead of seeing the continual BE deriding keyboard throwup of stever (aka: Mr soon to be 7500), we could opt into something that posts this instead:

Please and thank you.

sorry that you as a Creighton fan don't like me pointing out that your OOC SOS isn't that good, but it isn't. Creighton didn't schedule aggressively like Nova, Butler, or Xavier did. Or Georgetown even. Those 4 with top 100 OOC SOS- with 3 in the top 50.
Of the projected top 30 in RPI- Creighton's only better in OOC SOS than West Virginia and USC. 16 of the 30 have top 50 OOC SOS. They're going to have problems that Nova, Butler, and Xavier won't. That's not deriding the Big East, it's analyzing the teams in the Big East. The only other contending team that has a bad schedule is Marquette. So kudos to the teams that scheduled stronger.
