I thought URI had the better run of play for the majority of the game. They were more aggressive defensively and on the boards for most of the game, but then the let up with about 7 minutes to play and Providence made them pay. It was strange to see providence out worked for most of the game since toughness and effort have been providence's hall marks. Providence hit a bunch of very tough shots to win the game and Kartwright hitting a bunch of deep 3s helped a lot too.
Crowd was very good. I'd say it was about 2/3rds providence 1/3rd RI fans, but for the majority of the game the Rhode Island fans were louder even when providence was leading. But again in the last quarter of the game like their team the Providence fans came to life and became louder.

Still early, but it's time to end the doubts that Ed could put together a winning combination out of what was left with the Dunn and Bentil departures. They're 37 in RPI, 56 in KenPom, clearly at least a bubble team at this point.
Friar fans, take a victory lap!

Still early Kenpom had Providence Favored against URI. They've performed exactly to expectations so far. They've won the games they were supposed to (more than my team can say) and lost the ones they were supposed to. If you were expecting them to be St. John's or DePaul that's on you. There exactly where they're supposed to be talent wise. I think the 18-13 projection and possible NIT bid is probably pretty accurate. Could do even better or could fall short, but that feels about right.

and my point is they're still projected to finish tied for 7th at this point on kenpom. They haven't done anything to prove 8th place wrong yet.

More so, Hooligan, it's how they have played so far. They were not overmatched AT ALL against Ohio State on the road. They were not overmatched against a top 10 Virginia team. They beat a team they weren't supposed to beat in URI. You can say KenPom had PC as the favorite but I believe that was factoring in how they have looked so far this season as opposed to before the season started, where most felt this was the year URI had the upper hand on PC. Cartwright has 100000000x more value than he was given credit for on this board preseason (not to toot my own horn, but... ), Bullock I don't even think was picked as an honorable mention all conference player on this board, clearly that wasn't accurate as he currently leads the league in scoring. Hooligan, you are probably the exception who saw that this Friars team had some nice pieces, but, as I mentioned, you are one of the few exceptions. Not to throw stones at your team, but I think Georgetown's play and Marquette's play has done a little so far to prove 8th place wrong for Providence...
