We all know that a win over Wichita is more impressive than one over Boston College, but the dimwits at ESPN and other talking heads are more impressed they see the Big East at 6-3 or whatever vs our "power conference" rivals.

honestly, I've never heard them saying that ever before. It's definitely not as regimented as in college football where you hear their announcers all the time say this guy has the most yards per attempt in P5 conferences. You hear that all the time. No where near as much in college hoops. But you hear a whole hell of a lot about stuff like record vs top 50, top 100, etc.

And I think college basketball lends itself less to that kind of condensed analysis.

You don't hear record vs power 5's in college basketball??

no not really..... I mean look at Jay Bilas and what he said about Monmouth not making it last year....
"What really stood out to me was the absence of Monmouth," Bilas said. "With 13 true road wins, 17 road/neutral games and they won 10 games against the top 100. They are not in the field — and I have hardly been the champion of the little guy over the years — but I am tired of the committee saying go out and play — a year SMU and Louisville are not in the field — and they don't put Monmouth in. It is very disappointing."

That's the kind of stuff that folks talk about as being important. road wins, road/neutral games, wins vs top 100. And a lot of that is because there are a lot of teams like Gonzaga, VCU, Cincy, SMU now- and before Creighton, Xavier, and Butler.

Stever- we are comparing vs the Football 5 for two reasons:

1. They are the best five conferences (excluding the Big East)
2. It is a constant and easy to measure metric

Really it's simple. If you want to compare vs top 25 or top 50 or whatever... then you next need to determine whether you're using AP, Kenpom, RPI (and which RPI system), etc. The top 25/50 also ALWAYS changes, so you need to go back and update prior entries. Most people don't want to spend time accounting for something that's so time consuming.

If you want to start your own topic of Big East vs Top 25 RPI or whatever go ahead, that would be interesting (and I'm not being sarcastic), but it's obvious why this topic was made and the logic behind it.

Also, no leagues outside the F5 are worthy of being added here. Some leagues like American and A10 have a few great teams but far more average to mediocre teams.

stever must be a masochist along with being a shill for the AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAC. How else do you explain the fact that (1) he keeps reading this "dumb" thread, and (2) he posts repeatedly on this "dumb" thread. A word of advice, stever...STFU.
Xavier will surprise. Never count them out of the Dance.

Crieghton is balling right now. The biggest thing early in the season that separates contenders from pretenders is the ability to win on the road or on a neutral court.

Nova, Creighton, Seton Hall and Xavier have shown they are early contenders. I have been impressed with Creighton's depth and post play. Nova is a well oiled machine. Seton Hall plays so hard and has great guard play and a anchor in Delgado.

I'm interested to see how Butler plays away from Hinkle. They have a star in Martin and good complimentary players, also they have been without Savage who has pneumonia

Marquette is still trying to figure it out on defense

DePaul looks improved.

Providence is playing hard and Cooley always gets the best out of his team's.

St. Johns is fun to watch and has talent. They just need more repetition and need to learn how to win together.

Georgetown needs a break and good team win to turn their season around. They have one of the best rosters on paper.

And with Seton Hall, don't forget that Delgado's been playing on a bum ankle. There's more to come once he's up to 100%.

I was watching the replay of the Creighton NC state game and the announcer said State has looked good this year but "this will be their first test against a Power 5 opponent," lol
