The Cubs have some of the most obnoxious fans in sports. For that fact alone, I'm rooting for the Indians. Plus, as a Butler alum I've grown accustomed to pulling for the scrappy underdog :D

That said, I think the Cubs the series. There really aren't any weaknesses on their team. I actually like a lot of the players on their team - but as a Reds fan, I just can't bring myself to root for them.

Your perception of the Cubs having obnoxious fans is because they fill up your half empty stadium in Cincinnati and cheer for their team...I've lived in Cinti and I've seen it happen. Pretty glorious sight too!

Seriously though, what makes you say they are so obnoxious compared to fans from other teams?

to me tonight is the series. Cubs win, and Indians have to get Kluber 2 wins and still win another game. Indians win and Cubs have to beat Kluber once to win the series, easier said than done.

Think I heard wind will be blowing out tonight.

Preface: I really have no problem with true, die-hard Cubs fans - other than their treatment of Bartman. I mean I don't like them, but I don't have as much of a problem with them. I watch damn-near every Reds game and for the past 2 years they've been terrible - so I can respect any team's fans that stick with them in good and bad. However, I feel like the Cubs (maybe more than any team) has obnoxious bandwagon fans - and that's what annoys me.

Okay, now my rant: I feel like when you look around Wrigley, there are a TON of people that don't watch baseball most of the season but still love to go to Cubbie's games because its a social event. It's like a frat party where young Chicagoans go to be seen, not necessarily to see a game. They usually come in two forms: 1.) Chicago girls from Lincoln Park or North Shore, in a Cubs jersey they bought that day. Sitting in amazing seats and texting the whole game. They usually claim to 'LOVE' the Cubs, yet can't name a player. I went to college with a lot of girls like this - so my facebook feed has been flooded with these 'fans' a lot recently. 2.) Chicago bro's (usually who moved to Chicago from the suburbs, northern Indiana, or Iowa) who aren't really there to watch baseball - but instead to pound 15 Old Style's and start fights in the bleachers.

So it's not their fans exactly, it's the "fans". And for the most part, I think bandwagon fans of any team are annoying. The Cubs just happen to have a culture where it's more common and accepted to be a fan because it's fashionable.

Comedian Bill Burr does a good job of summing it up (CAUTION: THERE IS SOME NSFW LANGUAGE IN THIS CLIP)

I'm a Cubs fan, but can understand this feeling. The last few years I saw KC Royals "fans" come out of the woodwork to jump on that bandwagon. Bandwagon fans usually are the worst...but the Cubs don't have an exclusive on bandwagon fans.

I readily concede that people with no favorite team in the WS, or that may be fair weather baseball fans in general, are likely to be rooting for the Cubs. The same thing happened with the Red Sox several years ago when they were battling for their first WS crown in seemingly forever too. People enjoy rooting for the franchises that have been losers for so long.

No, Cubs definitely don't have a monopoly on bandwagon fans. And I agree, the Red Sox are another one of those teams that people latch onto. I'm a assuming you fall in the category of Cubs fans that I don't necessarily have a problem with. (Although I do roll my eyes at 'Go Cubs Go' and adding Cubbies to 'Take Me Out to the Ballgame' - but those are minor annoyances. :D ) In fact, 3 of the 6 guys that stood with me at my wedding are Cubs fans.

Living in Central Indiana probably has probably fueled my point of view a little as well. Traditionally, the state is pretty split between Reds & Cubs - with a lot of people who are apathetic to baseball altogether. But now there just seems to be a lot of people in Indy who didn't watch a game all year who have become a die-hard Chicago fans.

I think bandwagon Cubs fans annoy the shit out of real Cubs fans, too, just like they do any real baseball fan. It's why we have to sell our first born just to get into Wrigley when the Cubs are good. Now...I am not gonna lie, there are a few times I would have sold my first born, but he's grown to be a very respectable adult.

To be honest, I want the Cubs to win for myself, my mom (76 and still watches every game that's televised), and my emotional well-being, but I also want them to win so that this "newness of the Cubs winning" goes away and the size of the bandwagon shrinks dramatically, even when/if the Cubs are good.
