As of this moment, 60 of the top 100 prospects in the Class of 2017, according to 247Sports, have committed. And no league has more of those 60 than the Big Ten. Things break down like this:
Big Ten: 11
SEC: 10
Pac-12: 9
ACC: 9
Big East: 9
Big 12: 6
Atlantic 10: 2
C-USA: 2
American: 1
West Coast Conference: 1

First things first: it's important to note there are still 40 top-100 prospects who will, presumably, eventually commit somewhere, 30 of whom are in the top 50. And Kentucky still has zero commitments from the Class of 2017, which will obviously change at some point and maybe push the SEC to the top. So this is more of a mid-semester progress report than a final grade, meaning the list above could look quite different once the remaining top-100 prospects select a school.

Big East, at 10 teams, has the highest average number per school. Big Ten and SEC have 14 schools I believe.

This won't hold but very impressive regardless.

only
Last Friday Parish and Norlander did a segment on their podcast (near the end) on the state of recruiting in the AAC noting only one Top 100 recruit had committed to an AAC school.

CBS makes finding the right episode a challenge, hopefully this link will work.

Your thing, and a lot of folks here, is that you value depth way more than excellence at the top. Not just in recruiting, but in league play as well. Quality at the top IMO trumps depth.

To me, this class is important because recruiting after the 2014 class had slipped. To go from 15 top 100 recruits in '14 to 14 combined in '15 and '16. To have 9 already, and like you said 2 more that are favored just in the top 50- that's HUGE. To me, this class is already significantly ahead of the '16 class. If we get the 2 guys- it's a HUGE uptick.

It's funny- the system that I came up with to evaluate recruiting classes- it shows my point about how good this class is.....
a reminder- top 10 class 5 points, 11-20 4 points, 21-30 3 points, 31-40 2 points, 41-50 1 point.....

in 2014- BE had 18 points. was 5th, but only 1 point behind the Big Ten for 4th. 18 points. 7 points ahead of the Big 12.
in '15 and '16- BE had 13 and 12 points respectfully. Was 6th in both years. In '15 was 1 point behind the Big 12, but in '16 was 5 points behind the Big 12.
Now in '17 so far- BE has 20 points. 5th but by only 2 points to the SEC. 7 points ahead of the Big 12.

If the Big East can finish close to where we are right now, it's a huge uptick from '15 and '16.

The one conference that has fallen apart recruiting wise from where they were- the MWC. in '14 they had 2 top 20 classes to get 9 points. Well in '16 they had 0 top 50 classes, and so far this year SDSU has a #45 class I think it was.
When you are within a few points in here of the other conferences like the SEC etc.- the conference size is a definite argument. But when you're like more than 15 points behind like BE was in '15 and '16- you just had a bad class.

something we've all said a lot- about how these classes don't include transfers....

well Rothsein put out top 20 incoming transfers for this upcoming season....
http://www.todaysu.com/around-the-u/rot ... ll-season/

3 of them going the Big East...

think it's interesting of the 20 transfers- only 9 went to the P5 schools. BE got 3 and AAC got 3. A10 got 2 along with the WCC getting 2(err, Gonzaga getting 2). MWC with 1.

This week's update has some good and bad news:
Xavier 7
Butler 8
Nova 27
Creighton 31
Marquette 35
Providence 36
DePaul 47

Nova down 3 in the last week.
Creighton down 2 in last week
Marquette down 4 last week
PC down 4 last week
but DePaul gets into top 50 at 47.

still have 30 of the top 50 players out there.
have 9 of the 51-100 guys out there.
have 14 of the 101-150 guys out there

So only 53 of the top 150 guys still out there. With almost 60% of that being in top 50 now.

I attached a pretty solid reason that we shouldn't get caught up in this whole recruiting rankings thing

Saving stever some time.
Now now, he can't be that good if he's going to a Big East school.

With Goodin and Scruggs in their backcourt, Xavier is going to be loaded at those positions for the foreseeable future.
