Creighton Bluejays

The Bluejays seem to be a favorite of just about everyone who compiled a top 25 this season, with a 20-15 record from a year ago and the addition of former Kansas State guard Marcus Foster. Can Foster return to his freshman form, when he was one of the top scoring guards in the Big 12, or will he revert to the player who was an issue for Bruce Weber as a sophomore? Maurice Watson Jr., and Cole Huff had success for coach Greg McDermott a year ago, but the Big East will still be tough at the top with Villanova and Xavier -- as well as Seton Hall and Georgetown. I’m just not quite ready to throw Creighton in the top 25 just yet.

Not a very solid analysis, but I do think Creighton is a bit more of a wildcard than some are assuming.

This pretty much mirror's my feeling on them. While most of this board has been penning them in as the clear #3 team in this league, I'm not convinced. They very well may turn out to be that good, but I'm not ready to call Marcus Foster their savior and a 1st team all BE player before he's played a single game for CU.

Im not too worried about Foster, reports are that he is in the best shape of his life and is going to be the scoring leader on our team. My biggest worry is our front line. Justin Patton is a stud but hes still skinny, around 230 lbs for 7 footer and our current backup for him is Hegner. Zach Hanson is out and wont start practice for atleast another month so we are really thin up front after Patton.

Sounds like Foster could be like a Matt Stainbrook situation. Stainbrook was pretty much kicked off Western Michigan for attitude, work ethic, and whatever else, and he ended up losing 40-50 lbs at Xavier and changed his whole attitude. Sometimes just takes another chance in another situation.

I think "wild-card" is accurate to a degree. But it is definitely more likely than not in my opinion that they are going to be much improved. Georgetown would be more of a wild-card in my mind. I think Creighton might be better than people are predicting them to be. I've been following CU basketball in depth since the 90s and I've never been as excited for a basketball season to begin as I am this year. It just feels like we got the team chemistry, work-ethic, and athletic pieces at many positions to make a run this year. I guess we will see.

It's so hard to imagine he was down 40-50 pounds (because he was still huge) and that he had a bad attitude. Really enjoyed watching him play.

IMO Goodman was just leveling out the hype machine a bit. Last week Gasaway was crowing loudly about his 5 Most improved and was highly laudatory with his remarks irt Creighton. Good gosh, we don't want the nation thinking the mighty WWL is favoring any Big East team.

Creighton will be better than many think...let the season begin (next week, please).

Creighton Bluejays: The value of a talented, veteran back court during the month of March cannot be overrated, and there may not be a team in the country that has a better back court this season than the Bluejays. I don’t say that lightly, either, but I certainly mean it. It starts with fifth-year senior point guard Mo Watson, a dynamic-albeit-diminutive lead guard that averaged 14.4 points and 6.5 assists last season, his first playing at the high-major level. He has to get his turnovers down and his three-point shooting up, but he the talent is there.

And he may not even be the best guard on the Creighton roster. That title likely goes to Marcus Foster, the former Kansas State scoring guard that left the program after his sophomore season. You should remember Foster. He burst on the scene as a freshman, averaging 15.5 points, before a falling out with his coaching staff resulted in a transfer out of Manhattan. He’ll have something to prove.

There’s more to this roster as well. Justin Patton is a former top 50 recruit that redshirted last season and will join a veteran front line. Isaiah Zierden is a dangerous shooter. And then there is Cole Huff, a talented but inconsistent forward that will be the difference-maker for this team. He had a couple huge nights last season — 35 points against Seton Hall, 28 points against DePaul, 26 points against Rutgers — and also had stretches where he seemed out of favor. If he can pick up where he left off last year, reaching double-figures in eight-of-nine games before the start of the NIT, Creighton has the pieces to be quite potent.
