i think most have open spots. its an absurd position to take. it's quite likely big east programs will continue to add from the remaining pool. outside of a couple handfuls of programs around the country, who would be more likely? the answer is no one.

Historically that's not been the case. Just take last year with Xavier. On November 17 they were #13 recruiting class. Where did they wind up? #29.

Last 3 years- after this week, the Big East has added 10 players the rest of the recruiting classes. Not per year, but total.

The fact is that the remaining pool just isn't all that conducive for the big east. 31 of the top 50 still left. Considering '14-'16 the BE got all of 9 top 50 recruits total- BE may get 2 more of those guys. That would go along with the 1 that we have right now to get the 3 on average that we've been getting. Would mean that 29 would be going elsewhere. And as we've seen, schools getting those 29 guys get a huge boost in the recruiting ratings. Also the geography issues that I talked about last week. Lots of guys left from Georgia, Florida, and California.

Only 15 guys left from 51-100. And only 17 of the other 4 star guys left from 101-139. So- from 1-50- 31 guys left. from 51-139- 32 guys left.

Maybe this year will be different, as I said earlier that I could see a boost in recruiting from the Nova title run. And it has been a boost vs 2015 and 16- already 2 more top 100 recruits than last year. But the question is going to be how much of a boost.

While the Bulldogs do have another scholarship open for next year, it remains to be seen if they'll use it on another player out of the high school ranks and may opt to hold it in the event an impact spring transfer becomes available.

I wonder if that's probably more and more true. I mean, the spring transfer situation is becoming bigger and bigger each spring.

They're all in on Wabissa Bede because they need a point guard to pair with all the talent they have on the wing and the post in the future. However, considering how thin the 2017 class is with quality depth at the position and that their other two targets outside of Bede (Alex Barcello and Lavar Batts) committed elsewhere, there's really no point in using it on a guy that isn't going to be able to come in and help the team pretty quickly. So they aren't holding it unless they have to.

A huge part of my position that the recruiting is over 75% done is the last 3 years......

top 50 guys(of which this year 31/50 are left)
ACC 41
SEC 27
P12 25
B10 20
B12 12
BE 9
MWC 5
AAC 5
A10 2
WCC 1
Big East a distant 6th.

51-100 guys(of which this year 15/50 are left)
SEC 27
ACC 25
B10 22
P12 22
BE 20
B12 12
MWC 6
AAC 6
WCC 5
A10 2
Ivy 1
Big East in 5th, but it's only 2 guys away from 3rd.

Big East real competitive with guys outside the top 50. The issue is that of the guys left, not all that many are left. 32/89- 36%. Meanwhile, 68% of the top 50 are left.

Stever, no one cares. You constantly fill these boards with "what's going to happen" and all of it spells gloom and doom for the conference. How about we stick a pin in this thread and just revisit after the recruiting season and then we can judge? The OP made a casual remark that we COULD have the best recruiting class in our history (which is debateable now and not everyone has signed) and you have spent page after page trying to convince us against something that is glaringly apparent to every BE fan. The league is recruiting at a really high level. All teams are involved and the BE is a strong, strong college BB power on both the recruiting trail and the court.

Also you never address that in most cases the guys that are last to sign are the one and dones. And if their designation is any hint they don't stick around very long. So to use single recruiting classes as a judge of recruiting prowess does not tell the whole story. If we used that as the metric alone than one would think that UK has won the last 10 NC's. So, the relative value of a recruit can't be judged as to whether they are Top 50 or 25 or 10. Case in point Briscoe and Labissiere were not better players than Archdiacono and Ochefu, but the UK guys were top 10 and the Nova guys were closer to 50+.

Carry on.

You might not like it- but the fact is that in the last 3 years, the Big East has gotten 9 top 50 players. And 1 of those was a 1 and done guy himself. And you make it seem like top 50 guys=1 and done guys. It's a lot closer to top 10 guys, of which only 7 remain. So there's still 24 top 50 guys non one and done likely- that are still out there.

What this season will be is the best year since '14. It's unless there's an unprecedented break- not going to be all that close to '14- but that's ok. I have no problem at all saying that the league is recruiting at a really high level. NONE. You can recruit at a high level w/o beating a class with 15 top 100 guys. I mean, the '14 class had 13 guys in the realm that you always want to talk about- the non top 30 guys. That's right- 13 guys in the 31-100 rank. This years class has 13 in the top 139 rank(with of those 13 guys 4 being sub 100). That's a complete easy win for '14. The '14 class had 4 schools in the top 20. and a 5th in the top 50. '17 would need to do a lot of damage to finish with 4 top 20's.

The thing is it is totally ridiculous to think we'll finish *CLOSE* to the 2014 class.

2017: 0 five star and 13 four stars
2016: 1 five star and 12 four stars
2015: 2 five stars and 9 four stars
2014: 1 five star and 16 four stars
2013: 0 five star and 10 four stars

We will probably end up with 1 five star and 15 four stars, which obviously isn't anywhere close to the 2014 class. Really nobody should be impressed with the 2017 class at this point.

The truth is, we aren't recruiting the top 50 4 year players like the big time schools are. AAC already has one top 33 player (Big East has 0). Now you may say "wait AAC only has two four star recruits total for all of 2017", however those teams are in on a lot of five star players that just haven't committed yet.

AAC and A10 recruiting has really fallen off. We are looking at the Big East becoming the only non-P5 power.

Big East:
2017: 0 five star and 13 four stars
2016: 1 five star and 12 four stars
2015: 2 five stars and 9 four stars
2014: 1 five star and 16 four stars
2013: 0 five star and 10 four stars

AAC:
2017: 0 five star 2 four stars
2016: 0 five star 5 four stars
2015: 1 five star 8 four stars
2014: 1 five star 4 four stars
2013: 1 five star 10 four stars

A10:
2017: 0 five star 2 four stars
2016: 0 five star 3 four stars
2015: 0 five star 0 four stars
2014: 0 five star 2 four stars
2013: 0 five star 2 four stars

A10 recruiting has been awful since the loss of Xavier/Butler with only a handful of teams getting 4 star recruits in recent years (VCU, Dayton, and a couple others). AAC has obviously dropped off.

When you have 2014 with 15 top 100 players, and 2017 with only like 10-11 top 100 players, that makes the 1/15 vs 1/16 gap much bigger. I'm not saying the 2017 class isn't good, but it's not the special class that the 2014 class was.

1 thing that's different as well- there's 14 more 4 star guys than in '14.
2017- 139 4/5 star players total
2014- 125 4/5 star players total.

The 2014 class for the Big East also had guys # 134 and #137. And Kelan Martin at #141.

2017- 13 top 150 players
2014- 20 top 150 players

It would take a LOT for this class to beat '14.
