Theo John - Rivals.com profile

Theo John commits to Marquette - Milwaukee Journal Sentinel - 5:15 pm CDT September 13, 2016
Marquette head coach Steve Wojciechowski and his staff scored a recruiting victory on Tuesday as power forward Theo John committed to join the Golden Eagles’ 2017 recruiting class.

The 6-foot-8, 210-pound high school senior from Champlin Park, Minnesota, chose Marquette over staying in state and playing for the Golden Gophers. He made his announcement at 5 p.m. Tuesday evening, alongside his high school teammate McKinley Wright, who announced he will play college hoops at Dayton.

Yeah, he's not the most highly rated recruit but he fills a desperate need for next year. By all accounts he is physically prepared for the jump to college ball (6'8'' 210 lb) and I'm confident he will be a solid contributor. We still have two scholarships available for next season and are in on a few more recruits. I wouldn't expect a particularly high ranking for our recruiting class this season, but we should end up with solid pieces that will be very good in the '18-19 seasons. Our current commits are both post players (Ike Eke is a 6'9'' PF) and I'm super excited to see them grow.
This is my opinion. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

Anytime that you beat half-a-dozen Big Ten schools for a recruit, you’ve got a quality commitment.

Theo’s offer list: Marquette, California, Florida, Illinois, Iowa, Maryland, Memphis, Minnesota, Nebraska, Nevada, Oklahoma, Purdue, and Texas Tech.

According to Scout.com, Theo John is 6'9'', 215 lbs and is a borderline Top 150 prospect: Scout.com 2017 Prospect Rankings - Minnesota

The article linked below has the full 13-minute press conference. Theo John’s announcement occurs at the 2:05 mark on the video and Channel 5’s interview with Theo begins at the 7:03 mark.

2 Metro Area High School Basketball Players Turn Down Gophers – KSPT Channel 5 Eywitness News Minneapolis - September 13, 2016, 8:01 PM
Theo John told KSTP Sports he's excited to follow in the shoes of his idol, NBA star Dwyane Wade, at Marquette. John hopes to wear Wade's #3 jersey when he enrolls. Marquette doesn't retire jerseys, choosing rather to "honor" them. That allows the numbers to be worn - if permission is given - by future players. John is hoping to receive permission from Wade to don #3.

Congratulations to Coach Wojciechowski and the Golden Eagles.

I would expect Butler or Creighton to jump up once Christian David decides where he wants to go.....

1 thing right now... last year this time, BE had 1 5 and 5 4 star guys committed...

However- of the 7 4 star guys who committed- 3 committed between 9/19(one actually committed on 9/19)- and 9/30. Another one on 10/20. Only 3 guys committed to the Big East after Halloween last year.

2015 class- by 9/19- had 1 5 star and 5 4 star guys signed. Got 5 star(Ellensen) on 10/9. Got 4 4 star guys Mar-Jun '15

2014 class- prob best similarity- got 1 5 star on 9/19(Whitehead). Got 3 other 4 star guys by end of September. Only other one committed 11/1.

so last 3 years- after yesterday got 2 5 star and 15 4 star guys for the rest of the recruiting class. Of the 17, 7 were signed in the last 12 days of September. Another 3 were done in October or on November 1.

So in 3 years-
Pre 9/19- 2 5 star and 22 4 star guys.
post 9/19- 2 5 star and 15 4 star guys.
So as of now- 24 before/17 after- or about 59% done

by end of Sep- 3 5 star and 28 4 star guys
post Sep- 1 5 star and 9 4 star guys
so by end of September 31 before/10 after- or 76% done

by Nov 2- 4 5 star and 30 4 star guys
after- 0 5 star and 7 4 star guys(with 5 of the 7 being St John's, and 2 being Marquette).
so by then 83% done....

so would seem that the next 2 weeks are huge for Big East schools.
