Actually, a game scheduled opposite the Super Bowl would be a death time slot. The last couple Super Bowls had ratings in the upper 40s…as in almost half the TVs in America were tuned to the game.

The SEC championship game, while the most popular conference championship game, had ratings of 7.8 the last two years (or about the same as Dancing with the Stars). The ratings of the SEC championship game, historically, has been driven by the teams in the game. It’s highest rated game was an 11.1 in 2009 when Florida and Alabama competed.

That said, it probably won’t impact the Xavier-Baylor game too much. Fans of X and Baylor (and probably some basketball fans from those two conferences) will watch basketball then switch to the second half of the SEC game. Hardcore football fans are going to watch football.

Of course, the SEC could possibly drop football before December…

That's the reason ABC or ESPN doesn't put up a game versus the SEC Championship Game.

So all basketball should be postponed until college football is over?

there's a reason why you don't see any good basketball games on that day- or if they are on that day, real early(like last year Georgetown/Syracuse).

I am pretty sure the reason ESPN doesn't put anything worth watching on against the SEC championship game is because ESPN has a media deal with the SEC.

Is Baylor really expected to be good this year?

For most fans and media, yes.

Well, the game is on CBS. The other leagues don't want to go head to head with the SEC with primetime slots open.

I know it's on CBS...but the SEC and ESPN are in bed together. Like, the SEC network was created by the SEC and ESPN. The SEC network is run out of offices that ESPN has in Charlotte, NC. Every weekend during the season, CBS picks its game for that weekend, and then ESPN gets their picks, and the rest are shown on the SEC network, basically. So every weekend during football season, there's one SEC game on CBS and the rest on are ESPN run networks.

That would be the reason ESPN doesn't put something opposite the SEC championship game.
