If we do expand then it should be by 2 and ditch the round dobin. As much as I like conference games, I don't want to ditch what I believe is a fun first half of the season with OOC.

Make it 3 if you're going to force expansion, and go with the 6 teams twice, 6 teams once setup that has been proposed here.

I think it would be the best way. 3 rivals are 'protected' (played twice every year), and the other 3 home and homes rotate through the other 9 teams once every 3 years.

Of course, that requires having teams worth expanding to. And I still don't think UConn gives up FBS football, even if BIG12 takes 4 other teams and leaves them behind. They're like Lloyd in Dumb and Dumber..."So you're telling me there's a chance!"

The thing is, if the other P5 conferences are all at 20, then the Big East with whatever they do will have 20 games.

What's interesting is if they do go 20 conference games, that will make things a lot more percentage wise like it used to be(and what college football is). 1/3 OOC and 2/3 conference.

Look, I know we haven't won a national championship in men's hoops since April and three months is a really long drought, but the Big East needs to do nothing at all. We don't have to expand, we don't have to go to twenty games, we don't have to do anything but keep playing. It will have an effect on ACC schools in out of conference scheduling. A school like Syracuse that has tried to keep Big East schools on its schedule will have to cut back on those. In year one they had SJU/Nova. Year two was SJU/Nova. Year three was SJU/G'Town and this upcoming season they have SJU/G'Town and UConn. They will likely wind up playing just two of those a year or maybe even one in some years. There is no other real effect on any Big East schools.

I really think you are kidding your self if you really think either:
a> the ACC will be the only P5 conference that is playing 20 conference games.
b> if all p5 conferences are playing 20 conference games that the Big East would be able to play only 18 and not have it hurt NCAA tourney selection chances.

I've read the arguments, but I don't understand why this would "force" everyone else to go to 20 games. Especially us.

There is no indication they are all going to 20 games. You are assuming something, then turning that assumption into fact in your own head and THEN reacting like its happening. It's not, at least right now happening. Some say you even lose TV games by going to 20. Team A plays OOC Team and Team B plays OOC Team thats 2 games for the TV partners. Team A plays Team B instead thats only one game for the TV partners.

given how it's a copycat thing, I think the odds are real good that all P5 will go 20 games.... I think Pac 12 is near a lock given their geography quite frankly. Big Ten, SEC, and Big 12 are the big question marks. I think if P12 and 1 of the other 3 do- all 5 will. I think when the ACC starts this- in 3 seasons- the odds are extremely good that all 5 P5 conferences are at 20 conference games. What I don't think you can do is just pass it off as a 1 off type of thing, that the ACC would be the only conference with 20 conference games. Things don't work that way. It isn't happening in a vacuum.

And as far as why conferences will do this? To help their SOS. Why did conferences go from 16 to 18 conference games? A large reason was SOS based.

So we should add teams and go to 20 games BEFORE everyone else does because they MIGHT do that? Jesus stever, you using the extra thick tin foil these days?

IF all the other conferences do go to 20 games then sure we can easily look into it, but to say it's definitely happening and we need to do the same thing right now is beyond idiotic and reactionary.

An uneven amount of schools makes scheduling a nightmare. It has to be an even amount.

It's classic Stever. Create an issue that isn;t an actual issue, then overreact to said non-issue and then double down that we have to react to said non-issue in order to survive or doom will overtake us all. Remember his insistence that the NYE marathon was horrible for the league and we'd be drowned out by the CFB playoffs. Now it's the CFB playoffs that are moving off NYE. Chicken Little in action folks.

I'm not saying we should do it before everyone else- but watch and see the conferences announce it pretty quickly...

As to why this would force everyone else to go 20 games? Because you are going to likely see their SOS improve considerably with the extra 2 conference games.

Also for the other conferences - P12 just logistically will almost definitely do it. Geography is a killer in that conference.

The key is going to be watch for SEC, Big Ten, or Pac 12. If they say they're going to 20, it's going to be all of them.

What you can't do is just say that it's ACC acting like a rogue conference. Some on here just want to say that the ACC by itself going to 20 isn't a big deal and therefore we definitely won't have to do anything.

Well the league DID move the marathon off of NYE. So it WAS an issue.

Also, they've said that they will talk about moving the CFP SF off of NYE. They haven't done it yet.

I wouldn't really say it has to be an even amount. I mean look at the AAC schedule last 2 years. They've been able to handle 11 pretty easily. It's not like we when we start playing conference games just play 9 weeks straight. Everyone gets 2 byes thru the year.
