I'm sorry, but I don't think 2 extra conference games is all that minor. I think the P5 all will go 20 conference games. That's a huge part. It's not just going to be the ACC doing this.

There is no indication they are all going to 20 games. You are assuming something, then turning that assumption into fact in your own head and THEN reacting like its happening. It's not, at least right now happening. Some say you even lose TV games by going to 20. Team A plays OOC Team and Team B plays OOC Team thats 2 games for the TV partners. Team A plays Team B instead thats only one game for the TV partners.

And why exactly do you think all conferences will do this?

given how it's a copycat thing, I think the odds are real good that all P5 will go 20 games.... I think Pac 12 is near a lock given their geography quite frankly. Big Ten, SEC, and Big 12 are the big question marks. I think if P12 and 1 of the other 3 do- all 5 will. I think when the ACC starts this- in 3 seasons- the odds are extremely good that all 5 P5 conferences are at 20 conference games. What I don't think you can do is just pass it off as a 1 off type of thing, that the ACC would be the only conference with 20 conference games. Things don't work that way. It isn't happening in a vacuum.

And as far as why conferences will do this? To help their SOS. Why did conferences go from 16 to 18 conference games? A large reason was SOS based.

And question for you. I'm reading what you're saying as that you don't think the other conferences will do it- so it's not that big of a deal.... But let's say they do. What does the Big East do then?

Easy. Just add UConn when they get left behind. 11 teams and 20 conference games is perfect.

If we do expand then it should be by 2 and ditch the round dobin. As much as I like conference games, I don't want to ditch what I believe is a fun first half of the season with OOC.

20 conference games is a bad idea and would only result in less tourney bids.

Increasing the number of conference games either lowers inventory or keeps it the same. Remember the home team has the TV rights. So if you add two more conference games, each team gets an additional home and away conference game. As such you get additional home conference game per home member.

If the teams in the conference give up one Buy Game, and one game from a home and home series, you are giving up 1.5 home games a year. Net Decrease is.5 home games per team per year

If the teams in the conference give up two Buy Games, you are giving up 2.0 home games a year. Net decrease is 1.0 home games per team per year.

If you give up two game from home and home series, you are giving up 1.0 games a year. No change in number of home games.

My guess is the 20 home games is more to feel like a conference. Even with a 20 conference game schedule, that only gives you six teams you see twice in the conference season, and 8 you only play once.

While this could increase strength of schedule, remember this is giving up OCC wins, which could adversely effect the RPI's of the schools. Imagine what DePaul's or St john's RPI would be like if you replaced two of the OCC wins, with two more loses in the Big East

As you pointed out. They are adding 15 home games for free for ESPN (since ACC doesn't share in revenue, they are fixed price).

Make it 3 if you're going to force expansion, and go with the 6 teams twice, 6 teams once setup that has been proposed here.

I think it would be the best way. 3 rivals are 'protected' (played twice every year), and the other 3 home and homes rotate through the other 9 teams once every 3 years.

Of course, that requires having teams worth expanding to. And I still don't think UConn gives up FBS football, even if BIG12 takes 4 other teams and leaves them behind. They're like Lloyd in Dumb and Dumber..."So you're telling me there's a chance!"
