Ah yes... Midsummer - hot, muggy, no breezes, no ice for the lemonade/beer. ...and so it begins.

All is well in the BEast and sweaty homer fans begin musing on the upcoming season: "you're giving so & so all the benefit of the doubt and none for such & so." "I'll put my dinars on so & so who made the dance last season over such & so who didn't." The beginnings of a good to great season for our league. Ah yes... contention, competition, avarice, and with a little luck some downright hate. Gotta luv it.

It's a new day and a new season. While past performance speaks a tremendous amount about one's ability and likelihood for success; past performance in itself is not a guarantee of future results. Everyone lost significant players and production... everyone has the task of molding a new team of returning and new players. All of our BE teams have much work to do. Last year will not win this year, by default - they've gotta play the games. And while the Love is strong amongst all of the brethren, some of you have had your "Day in the Sun", reached your apex and are due for a dropoff/decline. Others G'twn, StJ, SH, Creighton are primed to move up the ladder - hopefully at the expense of the Providences', Butlers' Xaviers', and of course...Villanova.

X will still be a very good team, perhaps not as good as last season...but nonetheless very good. It's shaping up to be one helluva battle in conference play - as it should be. This is the Big East!

after watching jp a few times at osa, i predict he'll be solid off the bench for us. the strength of the team lies in our guards and offensive firepower. So, more transition basketball and possibly playing small. Kobe Paras would be a great piece. He can create off the dribble and defend well. Not a shooter but he doesn't need to be with how much offense the team already has

Creighton may have lost Groeselle, but X lost Reynolds, Able and Farr. They lost much more than Creighton. I have not been impressed by O'Mara, although I realize he will probably be more productive with more playing time. IMO, X has as much doubt in the interior as we do, as they may also rely heavily on new players there. I recognize that they have Sumner, Macura, Blueitt and the old man all back, but CU smoked them in Omaha and lost by 5 at X with Mo missing a wheel. Its not unheard of for teams to go from out of the tournament to a high seed. Maybe CU does and maybe it all falls apart, but with the exception of Doug's senior year, I am as optimistic as I have been entering a season since probably Korver's senior season. If Hanson, Patton, Hegner, and Krampelj can defend the interior and rebound, this could be a really, really good team. IMO, CU should be right there in the end with as a good a chance as anyone to challenge for a top 2 finish. (Note, not putting them above Nova, so at least I am not completely overboard here).

Xavier also went 1-21 behind the arc at Creighton(I couldn't watch the game but I from what I heard that was the major takeaway) and at Xavier X had that game in control. O'Mara was probably Xavier's best back to the basket scorer and might surprise some people.

XU was better than CU last year, but the game in Cintas was 95-93 with 18 seconds to play. They had the game in control at halftime but CU made a run in the second half. Just saying.

Yup. Creighton's front court is definitely suspect, and that keeps them out of the top two for me.
