If only we could have seen this coming...
This is my opinion. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

Tubby Smith is going to have them much better than they've been lately. It won't be a shock at all to see all 3 of those teams make the tourney. And SMU isn't going to be going away quickly either. And still have Houston improving quickly and should be a real bubble team this season.

The conference will be at least as good as the A10- as the best non P5/BE conference. I know folks here want the AAC to be a 1 bid conference that absolutely is meaningless, but that just isn't realistic- and won't be as long as the conference remains intact.

I dunno...according to Wikipedia, the power 7 conferences in basketball are the football P5, Big East, and the A10

Anyone here write that? It wasn't me...dates back to November 2015, although I only ran into it yesterday.

Brady Anderson's 50 HR actually were legit. His alleged use of PEDS is a myth without the slightest proof.

Brown may have a short attention span, but he did win a NC at Kansas without allegations of cheating.

To me, there is something seriously wrong the the notion that SMU (a repeated documented rules and regulations violator) hires Larry Brown (also a repeated documented rules and regulations violator), and reaches great heights for the program (first tournament appearance in 20 years, gets ranked recruiting classes, and sells out numerous games) due to his success. It was all sold on a lie from day one - and that was the intention and goal for his hire. For SMU, or any of their administrators, to claim they had no idea they would get in trouble or receive postseason bans/scholarship reductions is completely and utterly ridiculous. They sold their soul for short-term success - and they should not get to reap the rewards of his misdeeds.

It's only a matter of time until Kelvin Sampson (like he did at Indiana and Oklahoma) and Frank Haith (like he did at Missouri and Miami) get their current respective universities in trouble (Houston and Tulsa). Once a cheat, always a cheat. If schools hire known cheaters and violators, and get caught doing it again, then that school should get a greater punishment.

While GoldenWarrior11 makes some valid points irt coaches who have been proven to have cheated, programs convicted of cheating, and so forth. The documentation is also available to show that programs attempting to rise in stature / programs attempting to rebound from mediocre cycles in their history are sometimes compelled to take a chance on a coach with baggage.
The pressure and the demands from program backers, the fan bases, and administrators to win - to turn the program around /into a successful program - is intense. Often it appears to the involved parties that the benefits outweigh the inherent risks. Walk in their shoes for a few years - careers and livelihood are at stake from the top of the university down to the ball boys. As outsiders it is easy to criticize.

Why is it we only talk in terms of a shortlist of teams/coaches. Is it due to the NCAAs having a favorites list for punishment? Pearl, Boeheim, Jim Calhoun, Roy Wms, Pitino, Calipari, and others also cheat. However, except in a few cases schools pay after these guys leave, the university gets off the hook with minimal penalties, or Cleveland St (or other lambs) get slammed for the transgressions of the S'cuse' and North Carolinas'. Most of the cheaters don't get caught. Big time programs "work" the system and get minimal punishments, while the "usual suspects" repeatedly get slammed.

UNC deserves to get the maximum punishment for its' documented 18-20 years of cheating - similar to what the 1980's SMU received (the death penalty). If a school cheats and many do - when they get caught they deserve a severe, uniform, set of punishments. Currently rule enforcement and punishments meted out are arbitrary, inconsistent, and political in nature.

You can b_tch about Larry Brown & SMU, but the real crime will be UNC getting a relative "hand slap" for their 20 years of cheating - and folks just shrugging their shoulders and accepting "business as usual".
