Why? Because Slice is leaving? All of our recruits who make up the #1 recruiting class in the Big east came from Matt A. The recruiter who helped build Iowa State into a power under Fred Hoiberg and is a SJU alum/former team manager. Right now we are hosting a camp with the best prospects in the city all in attendance. Also you forget where we were after Lavin was let go, how much badly could it end up? You people really are funny around here.

When Slice was first hired, everyone assumed getting 5 star Mustafa Heron would be a lay up, due to Slice's relationship with the family. We not only didn't get him, but lost him to Auburn of all places. In fact, since Slice's hiring the entire roster has been turned over, and Slice is not responsible for one recruit that will be on next years team. Graduate transfer Durand Johnson, was the only recruit he got, and he's now gone. There are currently no scholarships available for 2017, so that would have meant in two years Johnson was all Slice brought to campus. As far as X's and O's go, Slice had a dismal mark as head coach at Manhattan. There is nothing to suggest in his background that he would have been much of an asset in that department. Where he did have a lot of success, was in recruiting against St. Johns and getting kids to sign with Kentucky. But again, getting kids to sign with Kentucky and play for Cal, with all the first round selections he's produced, isn't that hard of a selling job. Had he gotten even one big name to come to St. Johns I'd have been happy, but to date he's swung and missed on every one.
I have nothing against Slice, and wish him well wherever he winds up. But the bottom line is, considering his 400K salary, St. Johns didn't get much bang for the buck since bringing him on board. I'm much happier with the job Matt A. has been doing, and think his leaving would have been a much bigger hit to the program.
