They maintain the status quo; they continue receiving high payouts, maintain their status as a power conference, and get to amend the conference structure to have a conference championship game. Oklahoma wants long-term stability; the other schools want to keep getting what their getting, and worry about the consequences later.
The biggest loser? UConn by a mile. They anticipated being in the American for only a brief amount of time; they saw Louisville and Rutgers leave after only a season, and figured their time was soon as well. Now? They are stuck with East Carolina, Tulane Tulsa, UCF, USF, Memphis, Temple, Houston and SMU for the foreseeable future. The Big East war chest they got from the separation will dry up very soon. They will be over $100 million behind in revenue from Rutgers, Maryland and Penn State in a decade. They will also be considerably behind Syracuse, Pittsburgh, Louisville and West Virginia. The American won't be able to renegotiate with ESPN on a new deal for another 2-3 years - so they will continue to make $2-3 million per year from their TV deal. The gap between them and the power schools just became an abyss.
It's unbelievable how far UConn has fallen in just a few short years.
