Yes, Joseph was the #1 target. Eisenberg's story on yahoo confirmed it.

Good, Cincinnati fans I talk to act like Broome is a legend and they beat out a Big East team for him.

Haha, no. PC and Creighton both passed on him supposedly. He seems like a good kid though, but im much happier landing Joseph.

He was not awful for Syracuse. He played almost 30 minutes per game as a freshman in the ACC. Awful players don't do that. He rode pine this year and is transferring, one those win/win for everybody situations.

He is a top 10 PG out of high school in the nation, a top 50 overall recruit. Those guys don't usually step in and lead major conference teams to tournament appearances as freshmen, but as upperclassmen if they continue to work hard they end up being pretty good.

The fact that he is willing to explore new opportunities like Creighton shows me that he is not giving up on himself. If he continues to work hard he could be a real good player by the time he is an upper classman.

This is a similar career path as say an Angel Rodriguez from Miami.

Obviously I'm biased because I hate everything and everyone having to do with Syracuse, but he was objectively bad.
He started because Cuse had no other options he was their only PG. As a Freshman he shot 20% from 3 and his turonver rate of 28.3% was higher than his assist rate. His ORtg was 86.2. This past year he was a bench warmer shot 15% from three and his turnover rate of 19.2% was equal to his assist rate and his Ortg was 74.2.

Angel Rodriguez was already a good established player when he left Kansas St. His Sophomore year he had an ORtg of 107.4 had the 24th best assist rate in the country at 37.3% and shot his highest 3pt% of his career at 34%. He averaged 11.4 pts and 5.2 assists and 2.4 turnovers a game. Kaleb averaged 0.9 pts and 0.7 assists and 0.4 turnovers this past year and 5.9pts and 3.8 assists and 2.3 turonvers as a freshman.

Not even close to a good comparison.

Again not saying McDermott can't turn his game around, but this is nothing like the Watson or Foster who were good established players before transferring.

I'd guess Creighton offered Joseph and Broome, took whichever committed first. It sounds better for us to think that we were able to reject Broome so he had to go to the Bearcats, but I doubt that's the case. Hoyahooligan, while you're correct in assessing Joseph's performance for Cuse, I think he'll be fine for the Jays with a year to work on his game. He was thrown to the wolves with the Orange after Tyler Ennis left, and I don't think he was ready for it. Doesn't mean he's a bad player.

And how good is life as a Creighton fan when we're hoping a top 50 recruit who transfers from Syracuse is good enough? #lovedabigeast

Kaleb was first choice. Boone was waiting to see what Kaleb did. As soon as Kaleb picked CU, Boone committed to UC. Had it been first to decide, Boone would have been at CU. Kaleb is the much better fit. CU's offense needs a good point guard who can handle the ball under pressure and distribute the ball. It doesn't need a high volume, shoot first PG, like Boone. Plus, Boone's percentage isn't all that good - he just takes a lot of shots. Although Watson scores in double figures for CU, he is not a shoot first player. We obviously run some clear-outs and other plays for Mo as a part of our offensive package, because he is so good at getting to and finishing at the rim. But, you rarely see him dribble down and take a pull up jumper, unless the defender backs way off. Kaleb only has to be able to shoot well enough to keep his defender from sagging off and clogging up the passing lanes. Plus, Kaleb is 6'3" or so and Boone is under 6'. You need big guards to compete in the BE - Mo's height does hurt us some on the defensive end.

No. Joseph committed to the Jays, and Broome was contacted by the CU staff to let him know, and Broome called Cronin and committed. Sure, it does sound better that way, but it's actually what happened.

His name is Broome, not Boone.

Not that my opinion on how to shoot a basketball matters, but isn't it rare for a player who has shot so poorly for two years to become respectable? Sure he has a year, but many NBA players have had longer without success. I would love to see him improve to the point where defenders have to respect his shot, but that seems like wishful thinking to me. If he doesn't show improvement, at least we know it isn't for a lack of Kaleb trying.

If he can make good decisions with the ball, run our transition game, and play good defense then he is doing his job IMO.
