Gavitt Games Announced

Providence @ Ohio State
Wisconsin @ Creighton
Seton Hall @ Iowa
Rutgers @ DePaul
St. John's @ Minnesota
Maryland @ Georgetown
Villanova @ Purdue
Northwestern @ Butler

Georgetown hosting Maryland. Hoyas are a huge sleeper team next year. Have the talent to put last year's disaster behind them and a home game against the Turtles would be a nice way to start the season. Happy this is one of the games we are hosting.

Creighton hosting Wisconsin. Similar to Georgetown, the Blue Birds will be in the tourney hunt next year, and an early win against a traditional B10 power will be a good start. Also happy that this is one of the games we are hosting.

Also caught a break with Butler hosting a game, even against lowly Northwestern. Butler is going to be in the tourney talk so we want them to win a Gavitt game.

I also like the SHU match up. It's a road game, but Iowa is losing some key pieces and Seton Hall might be able to go steal one from the Iowans.

Villanova at Purdue is interesting. Purdue should be decent next year, so this sort of becomes a no lose situation for Nova. Win and they grab a nice road win. Lose and nobody cares come March.

If Bentil returns, then PC could find themselves in the tourney talk situation. Unfortunately they will probably be underdog in their Gavitt game. Will have to make up for it with other OOC games. If Bentil doesn't return it doesn't matter much as they are going to have a lost season. I don't know how good Ohio State projects to be.

DePaul should be able to beat Rutgers at home. Let's hope and pray. Rutgers is horrible.

St. John's with a winnable game, but on the road they will be underdogs.

GAVITT GAMES

Postby ndolan11 » Wed Apr 13, 2016 8:47 pm

The matchups for next year's Gavitt Games are official so I thought I'd put them all in one place.

HOME AWAY

Purdue Boilermakers || Villanova Wildcats
Georgetown Hoyas || Maryland Terrapins
Ohio State Buckeyes || Providence Friars
Creighton Bluejays || Wisconsin Badgers
Iowa Hawkeyes || Seton Hall Pirates
Butler Bulldogs || Northwestern Wildcats
Minnesota Golden Gophers || St. John's Red Storm
DePaul Blue Demons || Rutgers

I know that all the Big10 teams have to play at least 4 times, but the Big10 doesn't seem in any hurry to make this the marque event that it could be.

*btw I couldn't figure out how to format it with spaces so thats what the line thingys are

X was surprised and disappointed to be left out. Now in a tough scheduling spot.

Wow just read that and the matchups in my morning Cincinnati Enquirer. X was certainly expecting a home game and AD Christopher officially "disappointed". Ohio State, Indiana or Michigan State would have been a natural and a marquee event. Couple that with Nova at Purdue and you would have two high profile games that would have given this relatively new venture some pizazz. Well at least DePaul gets Rutgers at home.

That's ridiculous, why leave out a team that should be top 2 in the Big East next year?

Just wild speculation on my part, but every rumor was that Creighton was out. And that XU wanted a home game. Perhaps someone at the league level or elsewhere didn't want to have Wisconsin at Xavier since they just played in the NCAA, so Creighton was subbed in.

Even if that's true. That's a bad idea.

Wisconsin coming to Xavier after beating them on a buzzer beater in the tournament would be a marquee event and one that would have a lot of juice behind it. The fans and Xavier players would be amped up to get revenge.

I have a feeling Xavier won't be getting many home games. Probably because we have a top 10 home court advantage.

I heard Wisconsin was going to be sick that day so someone had to fill in for them.
