2016-17 non-conference schedules

Postby wildjays » Mon Mar 21, 2016 12:11 pm

As this season comes to a close, I am always looking towards next season and interested to see what the non-conference schedules are going to look like. Here is what I currently have for the Big East teams for 2016-17 and beyond.

Anything missing that needs to be added in?

could you go ahead and chop off the 2015-16 season stuff to make it easier?

will be interested with the Gavitt games matchups. Butler and Seton Hall will be involved this year.

Also and this really doesn't go with non conference stuff- but what do folks think will happen with the marathon? The CFP semifinal games are on Saturday this year. I frankly think it's time to just do away with the marathon. Big East doesn't need a gimmick like that. Got 10 damn good teams, and just have 5 great matchups before the 1st of the year(on like Dec 28/29- Wed/Thu). 1 thing kind of interesting with the calendar this year, assuming no games are played on Sat Dec 31/Sun Jan 1- would have 1 fewer bye than we had this past year. Which I kind of like better anyways.

I'd love to see for openers......
Seton Hall/Xavier
Nova/Butler
Creighton/Marquette
Georgetown/St John's
DePaul/Providence

Hopefully, Marquette improves upon the dump of an OOC schedule we had this year. I get that we wanted a few extra cupcakes because we had a younger team this year, but that excuse won't fly next year. You don't need P5 teams to fill up everything, but don't need bottom of the barrel drains either.

It would be hard NOT to improve on the OOC schedule next year.

In all seriousness though- just the exempt tourney should put you better next year. Instead of LSU and Arizona St, you get 2 of Pitt, Michigan, SMU. That's a pretty good upgrade there. Then add in Wisconsin, and that's 3 tourney opponents right off the bat. Then get a good Big Ten opponent, and that's 4. Just need 3-4 other teams with a pulse.

just saw this:

Utah and Marquette will start a home and home series next year in Salt Lake City, source told @CBSSports. Return game in Milwaukee in 17-18.

Nice start with 2 of Pitt/Michigan/SMU, then Wisconsin, and Utah now. Then hopefully a good Big Ten opponent, and you are light years better than this year at the top of the schedule. Now get like 3-4 decent games, and it's at least 150 spots better than this year.

I came by to post the same thing. Next year's schedule is looking decent so far but we'll see how the buy games go. It would be nice if we could have Ellenson for these games, but we'll see.
This is my opinion. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

Rick Majerus would have a huge smile on his face. Terrific news.

think about this though. with the way the committee worked this year, valuing the top wins- any wins against those 4 top teams(3 for sure, Pitt I guess kind of questionable)- will mean more than Wisconsin, Iowa, LSU, and Arizona St did this past year....

I wonder if there could be a similar type of thing as what Xavier/Wake Forest do.
