The thing is 1 final 4 is exponentially better than 2 elite 8's.

Also have to remember PC and Butler were 9 seeds. So them winning a game each more than makes up for Seton Hall.

Even if you say it's just in line with expectations, how many conferences can say at least that?
ACC- yes
B12- not really- they were supposed to have 14 wins. They have 9
B10- no
SEC- no
only other ones would be WCC, MVC, and then the smaller ones that got upsets

There are a lot of conferences that would've loved to of finished in line with expectations (PAC 12, SEC, BIG 10 and maybe even BIG 12).

Oh absolutely, and those guys definitely underperformed. All I'm doing is comparing the pre-existing Big East expectations on Selection Sunday to where we stand now as a conference. We absolutely did not underperform in any manner, was just curious about the consensus as to the extent of our outperformance.

I still can't imagine this not being an easy and obvious answer: TOTAL SUCCESS.

There really is only one rather strategic way to look at it, and that is that we've harped on the need to place a team in the Final Four, right or wrong, in order to affirm, create or whatever the perception of the Big East as truly being alongside the P5. Nova finally delivered that for us. This perceived - and frankly real - thing of going deep like this is just what the perception doctor ordered for the Big East. Two from the ACC, one from the Big XII and one from the BIG EAST. THAT's what is in store for the national media and the viewing public next weekend. Nova delivered. Imagine had they not. Then it would have been two from the ACC and two from the Big XII. I'm sorry, but this is huge for the Big East and it adds to the legacy of Villanova.

BTW, given the fickle nature of the NCAA Tournament and the sheer number of teams we had involved in it, finishing in line with expectations with no regard to the mix of wins that got us there (i.e. ignoring the F4 run by Nova) absolutely can be deemed a success). We're not the A10 here with only 3 bids. Going 4-1 in Day 1 was a very successful day in and of itself. Standing at 7-5 right now is a success. DudeAnon's point is perfectly fair when it comes to that.

Yeah good point, and I think when people look back on prior year's tournaments, they look at the Final Fours as the takeaway. Seeing Villanova in the FF counts for a lot more than simply an additional tournament win. Gives our conference some much-needed respect.

The thing about the Final 4 is there are only four (4) teams for the the media to talk about AND there is a almost a full week between games. It is a ton of press coverage for Villanova and by extension, the BigEast. There isn't a dollar value you can put on the exposure.

It can't hurt Willard, Cooley or Mack when they point to wins against a FF team.

Heck I guess the same can be said for SJU and G'town. :)

Huge success. This is exactly what we needed for the conference to shut up the critics. The fact that only the Big East (1), Big12 (1), and ACC (2) remain shows that at the very least the Big East had a better year than the PAC12, SEC, and B1G. For Nova to get past the overall #1 seed makes it even more wonderful.

This is the gift that keeps on giving. If Nova can somehow keep winning this will help everyone's recruiting, attendance, revenue lines, and Big East tournament. Just think that now league coaches can say with confidence to recruits that they can win against the Big Boys in this league, that they can compete for championships. HUGE

Going 4-1 in the first round was huge. We could have definitely been 2-3 as two teams wearing dark jerseys pulled off wins.

I'd go as far as to say that one Final Four is worth more than 3 Elite Eights. So yes absolutely a success. Final Fours are remembered Elite Eights are mostly just remembered by fans. To have Nova as the team making the Final Four makes it even better.
