Holtmann turns down Pitt interview

Pitt is becoming the comedy of errors coach search job for 2016.

Early targets of alumni Sean miller and kevin willard say no, then the brother of an alumni, archie miller, says no. Former coach Ben howland says no. Chris mack won't interview. Ed Cooley won't interview. The UNI coach, Jacobson, won't interview.

Buzz is that Holtmann was contacted and wouldn't interview

Down to the GW coach, some division 2 guy now at Green Bay, praying for Andy Enfeld, and some guy named Keats.

The ACC has pulled in some top dogs and created an entirely different dynamic for league members. If you're a coach, do you feel like Pitt will gravitate to a bottom feeder status in this league? First off, you've got NC and Duke, plus there are always a couple of other original ACC teams that will be good in any one year. Then add Louisville and Syracuse. These schools pour money into basketball. And Pitt's priority is going to be keeping up on the football end.

It's going to take some time to sort out the new pecking order, but it begs the question: Is Pitt really a good job anymore? Maybe it becomes the Nebraska, Washington State, Ole Miss of the new ACC. The fact that three of our coaches aren't interested in this ACC job doesn't say much about Pitt's potential in basketball.

sometimes being a coach and high major school isn't all its cracked up to be. the money and the pressure may not be worth the sacrifice of the quality of life and security one might find at a program perceived to be at a lower level

I would hope that this also says something about the potential of our league. Although clearly we aren't having the same success as the ACC----yet

Sounds like Kevin Stallings might be the next Pitt coach, was on the hot seat at Vandy.......likely their 10th or so choice....ouch.

Kevin takings, their tenth choice.

Actually think he's a good hire for them and will do fine and keep them in the middle of the ACC pack and on th e bubble. But not a sexy hire, not as good as the guy they just lost, and that fan base is melting down.

Could be worse, they could have just hired Steve Pikiell.

I've said it multiple times.....Do you want to make $2 mil a year for as long as you want the job at a school that loves you or jump up to $3.5 - $4 mil for three years and then not know what to do next.

The extreme example is Pete Gillen..... Could still be coaching Xavier..... or still be coaching PC.....but hasn't coached since UVa dumped him.

But pitt doesn't pay $3.5-5 mill. Only a handful of jobs do. Jt3 and Jay Wright are both top ten paid coaches in the nation. So your hypothetical isn't even appropriate.
