First time seeing that again. All bias aside, that wasn't even close to a charge. Sumner is probably one of the top 10 quickest guards in the country, and the guy wasn't even close to beating him to his spot. Total BS. But it never should have come to that.
The kind words are definitely appreciated. In my time as a Xavier fan, this one stings the most. 2004, Elite 8 against Duke and we were leading for the majority of the game as I recall. One of our bigs, who had been dominating, fouls out with 6-7 minutes on a horrible call. We end up losing by three. I hate to say this, but I was just happy that we made it that far as that was our first Elite 8 and we were playing big bad #1 Duke. Kinda bitchy on my part.
2007, second round against that great 1 seed Ohio State team with Greg Oden, Mike Conley, Daquen Cook. Up 8 with 4 minutes left. Oden "shot putted " Justin Cage 17 rows up in to the crowd. We were up 2 with 11 seconds left, and it was just called a common foul vs the most Technical of Technical fouls of all time. The only thing the Oden could have done more to get T'd up was to pull gun and take our player hostage. OSU lost in the finals to Florida.
This one stings the most because this team had everything needed to breakthrough. As difficult as it is to make a FF, the bracket had opened up perfectly with teams we matched up well with. F#ck it. The more I keep talking about this, the more it stings.
Nova making a run to the FF would definitely help ease the sting, forcing some of those media asshats to give this conference the credit it deserves.
