Sorry if it was said, looked super fast and didn't see it as I didn't want to get on the board after the pain of losing to Bucky Badger.

Why were the minutes limited for Farr and JP Macura?

We don't know. It's possible JF was nursing a bad leg, but no confirmation yet.

I can't understand for the life of me why JP didn't have more minutes.

But I'm beginning to move on already. This is why the NCAA Tournament is so special. It's just that we came out on the wrong side of the experience this time.

Otherwise, the future is very bright on Victory Parkway.

This. How does Mack not tell Summer and Miles not to switch on the screen? Everyone in the entire gym knew who as taking that shot and that it would be a three. If Miles hedges and Sumner fights through the screen, the one guy on the team that is the hottest three point shooter (rest of the team went 2-16) does not get a wide open look. Even if they switched, why the hell does Miles play five feet off of him? Get in his shorts and make him move instead of letting him bounce into an uncontested three. Oh sure, Miles put a hand up, but when you are several inches shorter and 3-4 feet off the guy, putting a hand up is not contesting the shot. Hell, even if they foul Koenig pressuring him before he can shoot the three, at worst its two shots. Go hit your free throws at the other end and the game is over. But, my bigger question is why didn't they pound the ball inside to Reynolds the entire last three minutes? He was 6-7 and didn't touch the ball when X most needed a bucket.

reynolds turned the ball over one time that led to easy bucket. after that they went ultra conservative, staying out on the perimeter with sumner beating his man to the basket couple of times. I thought Wisconsin made a mistake of not going to the basket right away and letting the clock wind down. Koenig misses that 3 and the game is over. that was a terrible clock management.

with all that, i still go back to the rebounding margin. Farr with 1 rebound and xavier gets outrebounded on both ends. that's the game.

looking at the stats- total rebounds were 38-36. Both teams got 31 def reb- Wisconsin got 7 off rebounds to 5 for Xavier. Hardly a difference....

If anything maybe the missed free throws- X missed 7 free throws, Wisconsin missed 5. It was a great game with the stats being a wash almost totally.... Wisconsin made 1 more shot.

Thanks for the answers. Future is bright!

I wish I could move on as a Marquette & Big East homer fan, we are still suffering today with the Badgers win over a fellow Big East member.

I was thinking there wasn't much time on the shot clock, but I am wrong there. Just looked at a video. The shot clock and game clock were pretty even. But, I still can't believe Miles stayed so far off the best three point shooter in the game that night (on either team). Koenig was not going to drive past him. He isn't quick enough to get to the rim. And even if he did, so what? Go shoot your free throws at the other end when they foul and put the game away. There was only one reason Koenig had the ball, and that was to shoot to tie the game. Get in his shorts and make him shoot an uncomfortable shot. Don't foul, of course. Shoot with some time left so you do have a chance at a rebound and/or to foul and hope X misses free throws at the other end if you miss.

I just don't get the lack of any pressure on him.

Thought Mack got outcoached on both ends. Koenig is a PTP but the only one Wisconsin has. Gard put his guys in their best position to win and I don't think Mack did. Couldn't believe X continued to launch 3 after 3 after 3 when their strength clearly lies in attacking the basket. X came out flat, held on to the 1-3-1 too long, didn't switch properly in the man, was inexcusably outrebounded, and didn't get the ball to their experienced PTP'ers in the end, and it still took a big time last second play to beat them. Hurts for them and for the league.
"When you lose a program like Creighton, there's no sugarcoating it," Valley Commissioner Doug Elgin said. "It's a devastating loss. They're going to go on and have success in the league they've joined." Yahoo Sports, October 10, 2013.

ChelseaFriar wrote:Let me just reiterate, I have never blasted any team for stumbling in March. I am a PC fan and I have zero right to do that.

My post was meant to be positive but clearly was not interpreted that way. I meant I am really, really pulling for Nova (as I was for Xavier last night).

ChelseaFriar, I completely understand where you are coming from. You were showing support for Villanova and the Big East, and it is MUCH appreciated. I am sorry for taking what you said out of context. My point was if Villanova had lost to Iowa, we would have been BLASTED! It would have come from every direction. Villanova can't win in March, they are chokers, etc.

Villanova can beat Miami, but if Villanova doesn't, it really isn't a bad loss at all, but still people are going to feel that we let the Big East down if we don't get past them because we are the only surviving Big East team. I just think that that is really unfair. You can't rely on one team to redeem the entire league every March. The Big East as a whole needs to step up and get it done so that going forward, it is 3 teams in the Sweet 16.

Again, my apologies. I know exactly what you were trying to say. It just stinks to have so much pressure on your team. In the old Big East this just was not the case.

Not so sure that is Mack getting outcoached as much as it is Koenig and Hayes being much more experienced than our guards and knowing exactly what they needed to do. Second, I agree completely that Myles needed to pressure Koenig there. You can't sit back and let him have that. Obviously the offense could have avoided that entirely, but it didn't and that's the situation we were in and it called for tighter D. JP was also getting roasted on D most of the game I would've pulled him as well. I think we could have used Farr though. Needed him to get an easy bucket for us in those last few minutes
