No disrespect to any of the other programs, but Marquette (in my opinion) was the most highly regarded program coming into the NBE in my opinion. It really is amazing how far they have fallen so quickly.

If it is just one notch, it is still a BIG notch. We were a Top 20 program for sure. I would still put us in the 3rd Tier though. 1st Tier would be KU, UCLA (3FF), UNC, Duke, Kentucky. 2nd Tier Michigan St, Florida, Louisville, UConn, Arizona, Texas. 3rd Tier is much bigger and includes teams like Georgetown, Villanova, Syracuse, Gonzaga, Marquette, Maryland, Michigan, Ohio St, Wisconsin, Oklahoma, Memphis, etc.

Gonzaga?

Where did this myth come from that Gonzaga is some powerhouse program?

In the history of their program, they have 6 Sweet 16's (1999, 2000, 2001, 2006, 2009, 2015) and with 2 of those Elite 8's (1999, 2015) and no Final 4's.

Compared to, I don't know, Xavier for example. Has 5 Sweet 16's (1990, 2004, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2012, 2015) and with 2 of those Elite 8's (2004, 2008) and no Final 4's.

I'm not sure any school without a Final 4 really deserves to be in that 3rd tier if you are talking all-time....Certainly, if you are looking at last 20 years, Xavier and Gonzaga are probably both in that 3rd tier.

Jesus people. First off, I said "teams like" and put a freaking "etc" mark at the end of them. Also, I agreed a post later that Butler and Xavier were on that Tier and that not listing them was not meant to be an exclusion. On the timeline , the point was basically looking back to 2000/2001 to now because it got into a topic of Marquette before the last 3 years.

Is it though? I mean, when ya lose your coach you end up having a lot of talent flee your program and it takes time to build it back up some. This is Wojo's first real recruiting class. And again, we are just one phantom DePaul foul away from having just one below.500 season in all our time in the BE.

From consecutive Sweet 16's and an Elite Eight, to three consecutive non-tournament appearances... That's disappointing no matter what the circumstance.

Hope we can turn it around next year.

Virginia Tech at 10-8 may just show that the ACC is thin compared to their reputation.

Here are the ooc wins for these teams, each of which finished at 500 or better in the ACC, except for BC:

Pitt (9-9 in ACC):
63 Davidson.
122 Kent State.
128 Morehead State.
147 Duquesne.
168 Western Carolina.
198 Detroit Mercy.
231 Eastern Washington.
243 Cornell.
304 Md Eastern Shore.
340 Central Arkansas.
So Pitt smartly gamed their RPI to beat a bunch of midrange midmajors.

Louisville (12-6 in ACC):
92 Grand Canyon.
114 Eastern Michigan.
161 North Florida.
177 Western Kentucky.
205 Saint Louis.
255 Samford.
257 Utah Valley.
260 Kennesaw State.
278 St Francis NY.
290 UMKC Roos.
292 Hartford.
Freakin Grand Canyon.

Clemson (10-8 in ACC):
183 Texas Southern.
201 Wofford.
290 Rutgers.
316 Presbyterian.
319 NC Central.
323 SC Upstate.
Really weak.

Virginia Tech (10-8 in ACC):
78 UAB.
193 Radford.
308 Ark Pine Bluff.
309 Jacksonville State.
312 VMI.
339 Lamar.
342 NC A&T
349 Grambling.
Buzz really challenged his guys.

Boston College (0-18):
165 Fordham.
178 New Hampshire.
195 Harvard.
276 Delaware.
277 St Francis NY.
315 Maine.
351 Central Connecticut.
So BC's wins over Fordham and UNH went a long long way. Would anyone have guessed that UNH would have a better RPI than UMass? Trivia: BC went 1-1 this year vs teams nicknamed the "Blue Devils".

Va Tech reminds me a lot of Marquette, Creighton, and Houston in that they arrived a year earlier than folks thought..... All 4 are playing pretty well, but their OOC schedule really shortchanged them...

One thing that could be really interesting..... if Pitt and Gonzaga both miss the tourney as 1st 2 teams out. Think back opening night when their game got cancelled. winner of that game would be in easily right now with that extra at least decent win......

Seton Hall 1/3

Just a polite heads up...
you should probably switch Crei and Butler.
Creighton is going to the dance and Bulter ain't.
