yes, probably several notches below, it's not like they are or you were, in any way coming close to becoming a UCLA, Kentucky, Duke or Carolina

heck, if it weren't for Dwayne Wade's final four, Xavier has arguably enjoyed more success than marquette has in the past 15-20 years and i'd say we're pretty far from being a blue blood.

Ok as long as you're being consistent. But with regards to the FF you can't just say "if it weren't for..." I mean I could throw that at you guys to and say "if it weren't for 'x' player then X wouldn't have the resume they've had" those things did happen and you can't discount them.

aughnanure wrote:If it is just one notch, it is still a BIG notch. We were a Top 20 program for sure. I would still put us in the 3rd Tier though. 1st Tier would be KU, UCLA (3FF), UNC, Duke, Kentucky. 2nd Tier Michigan St, Florida, Louisville, UConn, Arizona, Texas. 3rd Tier is much bigger and includes teams like Georgetown, Villanova, Syracuse, Gonzaga, Marquette, Maryland, Michigan, Ohio St, Wisconsin, Oklahoma, Memphis, etc. We didn't win enough regular season titles to be considered up there (to be fair, titles in a 16-team league are pretty ridiculously hard to get...conferences those size are just getting silly).

With all due respect Aughnanure I think depending on when you start your count from your list is pretty flawed. If you go from say 2000 there's no way you can say that UCLA even with 3 final fours is somehow more deserving of blue blood status than Michigan St or Florida or Uconn. I'd also say you'd need to better define what you consider a blue blood because Duke has 5 championships and Uconn has four, is that one championship the difference between tier one and tier 2? And with that how can you include Arizona (1NC, 1RU, 2FF) in the same tier as Florida (2 NC, 1 RU, 2FF) and UConn (4NC, 1FF). I'd dare say Arizona is closer to MU, Nova and GTown as opposed to those top teams.

okay fair, but X has one more elite eight and a few more sweet sixteens in that span, so it about evens out

Agreed on your other points though. UCONN is almost a dyed in the wool blue blood and Michigan State is getting closer, but still need to win another title or two I think. Arizona is definitely west coast blue blood status (slightly less impressive than east coast)

I don't like to change the definition of Blue Bloods too much. They are the most historical programs with the built-in advantage that makes it hard for them to stay down for any long period of time (Indiana lost their status IMO). Tier 2 can be considered Blue-Blood lite, teams that may have the potential to one day be considered up there.

We're being a little nit-picky here. UCLA gets there kind of because it's still UCLA and honestly their lift isn't as high as others to reach "Blue Blood". They will always be considered the premier program in their conference (Zona would have really start killing it a la Duke to UNC to steal that from them). Going to 3 straight FFs,and 8 S16s along with 4 conference championships is pretty solid.

On Zona, they won 6 conference championships while going to 9 Sweet 16s, 5 Elite 8s and a Final 4! So no, I don't think they're closer to us.

Guys, who cares about an arbitrary list he probably didn't put much time into? Lets not derail ANOTHER thread over some silly bickering. Start a thread in OT about that stuff.

Buzz Williams has done a quick turnaround of Virgina Tech. 2-16 the first year and 10-8 the second year in the ACC.

just a scary thought.... if they win 3 games this weekend(to include UNC and likely Duke/ND)- their projected RPI is 53.8. Their KP is already 67 and would definitely go up..... I would guess that could get them into the tourney maybe?

Maybe. That Alabama State loss is BRUTAL, though. Very brutal.

so true. but there again, they would have 9-12 top 100 record- adding in FSU, UNC, Duke/ND. Their profile would be much better than the one NC State had 2 years ago. They had 6-11 top 100 record.

Have to think if they got that far, they would be in.
