The CBI is expensive for host schools. The 16-team tournament charges schools $35,000 for first round home games; quarterfinals matchups cost $50,000 to host, and it’s $75,000 to play a semifinals or final game at home. The tournament’s championship round is a best-of-three series, meaning a team that reached the championship would have to pony up $75,000 at least once.

Game day costs, travel, expenses, etc. could run the bill up towards $250,000 for a successful CBI run. Ticket costs won't offset the total expense.

CU had more 25,000 total attend the four home games the year it lost 2-1 to Oregon in the CBI finals (first two games had only around 4,000 attend) (2010, maybe?). I don't recall ticket price, but even if just $15.00 per, that's $375,000. I think actual revenue was higher than that, so its not impossible to cover costs. I agree, however that for most teams it would be hard to get enough fans interested I attending a CBI game to cover the costs.

That was a fluke though. Dana Altman coming back to Omaha is what made that happen. We should say no to CBI.
