Ok, I'll bite. Why is a three seed important?

Avoid Nova till the finals.

If that is your goal, then 6 = 3.

Pretty simple, I thought. Because that's the highest remotely realistic finish for Creighton at this point. We aren't catching X or Nova. And you are right, if a 3 doesn't happen, 6th may be better than the 4/5, because I think CU can beat any other team on a good night (see wins over X and SH), but I don't see any way this group beats Nova, unless Nova misses the bus to MSG. So, even a 6 provides the most realistic chance to get to the finals, and then anything can happen. But, obviously, the goal at this point is still to finish as high as possible - hence the 3 seed.

what's interesting about things... lets say Butler beats Nova, then X beats Nova.

If PC beats Creighton, finishes tied....
standings would be
1 X/Nova
2 X/Nova
3 Seton Hall
4 PC
5 Creighton

X and Nova both sweep SH....
X swept PC. Nova lost to PC.... X would be 1 seed, Nova 2 seed.

Worth noting the statistical infamy that a DePaul win would bring this weekend. DePaul hasn't beaten Marquette in back-to-back games since both schools were members of Conference USA (2004 and 2005). DePaul hasn't beaten Marquette twice in the same season since 1991.

Al McGuire: "What is this?"
Waiter: "Mr. McGuire, that is a cull lobster. Sometimes when the lobsters are in the tank, they fight. This one lost a claw."
Al McGuire: "Well then take this one away and bring me the winner."
