Jesus, we have the number 1 recruiting class in the conference and you are arguing that yours is in fact better. Jesus tap dancing christ, you're all so GD insecure over every little perceived slight or possibility that you aren't #1 in something. Yes, you have a great team and Jay only needs to fill holes but that doesn't mean you have the better class.

Arguing which class is better is dumb. Who cares about what class is #1? It's basketball. Recruiting is much more about fit and needs in basketball.
Villanova has a great class for our needs. We need big men (Spellman) and another rotational player on the wing who can also play a lot of 4 (Paschall). We got them.
St. John's has a great class for its needs. St. John's needs a lot of talent. It's bringing in a lot of talent. None of them are ranked as high as Spellman, but St. John's would rather get 3 very good recruits than one 5-star recruit.
Why are St. John's fans so obsessed with being the #1 class? Recruiting class rankings are completely irrelevant.

Me, I prefer the high end quality over the mass quantity.
Not tough to figure out.

It's not that we HAVE to be number 1, it's that we are and you guys wont stop chitting on our class and having to one up everyone. The recruiting services say our 3 players make up a better class than your 2. Then Novaball and others need to crap all over us about how we're average and your players are better etc etc etc. You better hope those kids pan out and you better hope you stay in the top spot because if they don't and you don't you are going to be hearing a lot from me and my fellow Johnny fans.

So with that being said the recruiting classes are going to look different. This year Jay's need was size, and again, he got that.
Let me ask you something, do you honestly think Jay Wright couldn't have brought in at least ONE guard in 2016 if he wanted to? There are A LOT....A LOT of guards who would LOVE to play in Jay Wright's system, and he didn't bring in one. The reason being again, is Jay doesn't over-recruit, he recruits the positions he needs and he doesn't create logjams.
At this point I don't care if you guys believe me or not, but Jay backed off Alkins for that very reason, yes academics were a concern, but he also didn't want to create a logjam once we got Paschall. This is the truth.
Jay got what he needed, and in 2017, he will bring in 2 big time guards. Simple as that.

St. John's has a good class for them. But it is pretty much a bunch of average recruits. No real stars. No guys that I think villanova would even use a scholarship on.
If you have a completely depleted roster and need warm bodies, then the johnnies class is better. If you already have a solid program and are looking for very good players, then villanova has the better class. It's not hard to figure out.
