Big East - General Recruiting Thread

Postby billyjack » Mon Feb 08, 2016 12:33 pm

I often forget to check out our recruiting forum here at the HLoH.
Maybe we can use this thread as a general overviewcto prompt us on recruiting news.

For example, in addition to St John's grabbing Freudenberg, Creighton just got a commitment on Saturday from the #46 player for 2017. The kid grew up 10 minutes from Lawrence and was a priority for Kansas.

I'll post this here too. Nice article on how the BIg East has elevated Creighton's recruiting.

Here is Nova:

2016. Including the eligible transfer, probably the best class in the conference if you go by quality over quantity

Omari Spellman. Top 20 recruit. #2 rated Center. A 6-8 big man, more of a bruising style than a flashy athlete. Will need some time to shed fat and put on muscle in order to bang with the big guys in the BIG EAST

Eric Paschall. This kid is a big get. He was a decent recruit out of high school, but chose Fordham. Tore it up at Fordham and now he's going to be playing on the main line. Should fit in well with the Hart/ Bridges type role for Villanova

Dylan Painter. Not rated all that high. More of a project to see if he can contribute as an upper classman. A big man and worth the risk for Villanova. The hope is that by 2019 and 2020 he will be part of the rotation. I wouldn't mind seeing him redshirt a year.

2017:

The big name for 2017 is Lonnie Walker. 5 Star ranked #19 nationally, a 6-4 slasher type guard.

Jermaine Samuels is a 4 star top 50'ish kid. 6-6 wing guard/forward.

Apparently they offered Chris Lykes, who is a 5-8 PG. Gets 4 stars on ESPN but unrated. Doesn't have a lot of other high offers. Not sure what his deal is.

Quade Green is a 5-11 PG, 4 star, top 50'ish player. Nova supposedly in good shape with him.

Trevon Duval is #1 PG, #3 nationally ranked player. DJ Harvey is #1 SG, #9 nationally ranked player. Nova still in on these guys, but so are a bunch of other teams.

That is awesome for Creighton and it makes me very excited to see the Big East continue to grab these type of recruits. If people could continue to update us on commitments that would be great. I know there is a recruiting section of this board, but to be honest, I am not sure how often people check that. So if people could continue to post updates on this section as well, unless the admins don't want that, that would be great. Thanks!

Congrats to Creighton! Psyched for you guys.

PS - here is his profile on ESPN. He had offers from Indiana, Kansas, Iowa State, etc., and he chose the Big East!!!!! This is huge! For a strong Big East, we need our recruiting to remain strong, and for the most part, it really has!

GREAT GET CREIGHTON!!!!!!!!! This makes me very excited!

Are you ever not an insufferable douche? Our recruits aren't quality? I can't wait to shove all of this talk right back in your face, if you ever show it here again when Nova falls off it's perch.

You have one big man, one transfer and one project and thats the quality you're talking about?

Marcus Lovett
Tariq Owens
Shamorie Ponds
Richard Freudenberg
Bashir Ahmed

Thats quality and quantity and the best recruiting class in the conference.

Our 2016 class currently consists of two recruits.

Brendan Bailey (SF): Rivals 48, Scout 43, ESPN 98, 247 #63.
Sam Huaser (F): Rivals 133, Scout 73, ESPN 85, 247 #79.

We are still pursuing some players and a possible replacements for Ellenson.
This is my opinion. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

Class of '16

NJRedman, not looking to get into a pissing match with you, I understand your comments are more directed at NovaBall for past comments and conversations you have had, but Villanova is not falling of it's perch anytime soon and trust me, Villanova, and the ENTIRE Big East, welcomes a successful St. John's program.

We backed off Rawle Alkins the same way we backed off Rysheed Jordan. I am not saying we would have gotten these guys but Jay Wright doesn't recruit for the sake of recruiting, Jay recruits to fill a need. This year we needed big men, and Jay got those, and considering he brought in a Top 20 big man, I think he did pretty well. I follow recruiting very closely, trust me, it is a lot harder to land a legit Top big man than it is to land a legit Top guard, considering the fact A LOT of big men are projects who are raw and are recruited based on their potential.

For 2017, our need will be guards. You can save my response if you want to, but I can promise you Jay will be bringing in 2 Top 100 guards. Our recruiting is still VERY much on track.
