Year 2:
80% of the league was ranked at some point
60% of the league made the tournament
Had a 1 seed

Year 3:
40% of the league ranked in top 10 at some point
2 teams cracked the top 5
Multiple games featuring two top ten teams
A possible #1 ranking
A possible top 5 match up in a couple of weeks

Just keep hitting new milestones.

Remember, in the original big east, it took four years to send a team to the final four, and six years to send its second team. It took Cuse 9 years to make a final four (and 18 years before their second trip) and it took uconn 20 years to make a final four.

This doesn't have to be built overnight. Just keep hitting new milestones.

Big East formed in 1979-80 season.

Georgetown made the final 4 in 1981-82 season(3rd year)
Georgetown won it all in 1983-84 season(5th year)
in 6th year, had 3 teams making the final 4.

I guess that means you are right, unless the big east wins it all this year then it is a bad conference.

Anyway, the milestones all matter for perception. If you just have a team or two make a random deep tourney run, what do you have? The colonial league with GW and VCU making runs.

The regular season credentials are also important. But since you hate the big east and want to shoot it down, you will ignore their significance.

the post season absoulutely matters though... you can act like the regular season means everything- but to most casual fans that's just not the case. the Big East won't get the full respect it deserves until it performs in March. You can act like it shouldn't be the case, or that it's not the case- but that is the reality of the situation. I think if you ask the big east coaches- they would tell you the same thing....

Big East doesn't have to win the title this year- but they have to get a team or two in the sweet 16- and not by a fliuky type situation like last year with X. And one of those has got to be Nova quite frankly. and really get into the elite 8 at least....

What was fluky about Xavier getting to the sweet 16? Was it because they played Georgia State? Georgia State earned the right to be in that game by beating Baylor. High seeded teams (minus 1 seeds) lose in the first (second or whatever they're calling it now) round ALL THE TIME. Xavier has been in the sweet 16 more often than not in the last 8 years and that's no fluke.
