Bubble Watch

The first ESPN bubble watch came out today. Big East is as follows:

Locks: Villanova
Should be in: Xavier, Providence
Work left to do: Seton Hall, Butler, Georgetown.

They also mentioned several times that they like Creighton a lot but can't justify including them on the bubble while their RPI is around 100.
Seton Hall Pirates
Big East Tournament Champions: 1991, 1993, 2016
Big East Regular Season Champions: 1992, 1993, 2020

Well, with wins over 'Nova and Xavier in the next 7 days, the Bluejays will be back in the bubble mix. ;)

I don't know what else X needs to do to be considered a lock...weird.

I can't believe Iowa is a lock. Any team which loses to Dayton shouldn't be a lock.

If Xavier beats Marquette on Saturday and Michigan can beat Iowa to end the year, then X will have a huge leg up on Iowa if they are in contention for 1 spot on a seed line. Xavier would be 4-0 against common opponents and Iowa would be 2-2.

This is abjectly hilarious where Xavier is concerned. When was the last time that the Number 5 team in the Country, and higher than that in the RPI, not a lock at this time of the year? This team has the most -7- wins over top 50 RPI teams in the US! And they are still not a lock.

ESPN is a joke anymore...and horrifically biased against the Big East. But we all knew that already.

Nothing to see here. He only lists a total of 5 schools as "locks" and says X is as close as possible without being a lock. Let the fun happen!

Lock = "Lose out and still be safe"

0-10 would mean: 19-12 Overall, 9-12 vs Top 100, RPI about 50. And of course, a 10-game losing streak. That's not safe.

BUMP...

no updates since at least 3 Feb? Here's a take:

Technically SH and Prov are a coin flip...either can claim "should be in" status, but both have
a difficult stretch run. I still contend the BE will get 5 in the tourney, but 9-9/10-8 conference
record is required.

NCAA Locks: Villanova, Xavier
Probably in: Seton Hall
Bubble: Providence, Butler, Creighton
out: Marquette, Georgetown

So with that...Villanova, X, Creighton, SH, Prov (in order) get bids.

Discussion?:

Providence isn't on the bubble. They beat DePaul and St John's will be in.....
If anything Seton Hall is closer to the bubble. They need 1 win out of @ Georgetown, PC, X, @ Butler.

Butler needs to win 3 games out of Creighton, @ Georgetown, Seton Hall, and Marquette.
Creighton needs to win 4 games out of @ Butler, Marquette, St John's, @ PC, @ X.
