Nobody enjoys that St. John's has gone fifteen years without a tourney win. Nobody enjoys talking smack about St. John's. Nobody enjoys that the NYC basketball community has grown apathetic towards the St. John's program (#10 Xavier comes to town, game drew 4,000 fans; gtown comes to town, 7,000 fans)

Everyone wants St. John's to be good. Everyone wants Chris Mullin to succeed. Everyone wants to see St. John's as a hot draw during those blistery January and February weekend afternoons in midtown. Everyone wants to see Jay-Z sitting courtside when their teams come to visit. Everyone wants to see St. John's win big OOC games at the garden in December.

And you are one of the good fans. You aren't part of the apathy and disinterest problem that is plaguing your program. You care, and everybody here wishes there were more johnnies fans like you.

I know how we Friar fans feel about going from where we were to where we are under Cooley. You Johnnies fans are going to really enjoy it when it happens and I'm certain it will under Mullin.

This is what every new coach trying to build a program will say. Promises are nice, but results are nicer. I'm hoping it works out. I want everyone in the Big East to be dominant.

Well only time will tell but i'll bet that Chris gets them back in a big way and sooner rather then later.

Well according to what Matt A told Gus Johnson, he expects St. John's will have the number 1 recruiting class in the Big East and top ten in America.

So I'm just wondering if Matt has something up his sleeve.

Jay Wright I believe had the #2 recruiting class in the country with Jason Fraser, Curtis Sumpter, Allen Ray and Randy Foye. Those guys didn't make the tournament until they were Juniors.

I am rooting for St. John's but the "enjoy it while you can" type posts are a little premature and ridiculous. Villanova isn't going anywhere despite how good St. John's is, and for the record, not talking smack, just stating a fact, Villanova has the highest rated recruit heading into the Big East next year.

I was at the game at MSG on Sunday. It was boring. I would love for St. John's to become more competitive to make these games more interesting. Let's not forget though, Villanova has won 14 out of the last 15 games against St. John's. Again, I am rooting for you guys, but you have a lot of ground to make up before you start pounding your chests.

It's too early to tell but he's been recruiting well. I expect them to make the NCAA within 2 years....

I meant enjoy talking smack while us SJU stays on shutup. Not that Nova was going anywhere.

From next year - 20-21 season, lets see how we fare vs. Nova. Guarantee the talent level will be alot closer then in the past.
Need the horses to compete and we will have them with Mullin Slice and Matt.

That would be fantastic for the Big East if you had #8 St. John's vs. #9 Villanova slugging it out at MSG on a Saturday night in January or February. It would be like the Glory Days of the Big East all over again. The restaurants and bars around The Garden would be packed before and after the game. It would be like a Big East tournament type atmosphere. I am hoping this happens. I think 2017 will be a VERY big recruiting year for both Villanova and St. John's to say whether it will or not.

That would be great. We'll see if Mullin can deliver the recruits St. John's fans seem to think they're going to get. Providence was a mostly dormant program until Cooley came in and turned that around. And even with Cooley turning that team into a legitimate contender, they still haven't won a tournament game in 18 years. Thank god that should change this season.

I would like nothing more than for St. John's to turn it around, get Alkins, get Maker, and become a legit contender. That would be awesome. I want the Big East to have as many good teams as possible.

But with all coaches, I'll believe it when I see it. Mullin hasn't proven anything as a COACH. Being a great player only helps with recruiting, and even then, it's debatable just how much. He could go out, sign Alkins, sign Maker, sign a ton of top recruits, and still not be a great coach. Or he could recruit at an average level and end up being a great coach who can lead overachieving teams that New York falls in love with. Who knows, he's a total blank slate. And it's impossible to judge anything, good or bad, from this season.
