UConn hasrecently developed a public/private partnership for the study of the human genome and its medical applications. It. Currently building that center and expanding the breadth of the research. It will put them in the forefront of this cutting edge research and one of the primary human genome research centers in the country.

Virtually all colleges and universities are accredited. LikeNebraska, UConn is not AAU.

With those numbers and their direction it seems inevitable that UCONN will be in the B1G.

Here is where the animosity generally comes from as well. For years the basketball only schools were blames for everything in the Big East by the football schools. We were destroying the conference, we were leeching off them, we were taking their money (which was never true because the hoops only schools did not get a nickle from football). Meanwhile all these football schools were saying we will do whatever it take to keep the Big East together while they were desperately trying to bolt. In the Requiem for the Big East special, one of the most telling parts was when Rick Pitino talked about how the old Big East (non-football days) and how everything stayed within the group. But then, he said his athletic director would come back from meetings and say everyone is shaking hands saying we are all together - and then calling the ACC begging for an invite. When the Maryland spot opened in the ACC, UConn was out there publicly asking for an invite. Then killed the C-7 for breaking up the league. That being said, if they got rid of football, I would take them back.

they did what was best for their school (asking for invite from ACC) and C7 did what was best for C7. I don't have problem from that perspective. Just don't point the finger on C7 for destroying the BE. that's not even remotely true.

Villanova also "inquired" about ACC membership when it was clear the oBE was falling apart. I don't think their inquiry was taken very seriously though.

But the idea that they view athletic conference affiliation as a factor in academic prestige is laughable considering they are currently in a conference with Memphis, temple, Cincy and the directional southern schools.

Im guessing you were replying to me. I never said uconn was using conference affiliation as a factor in academic prestige. UConn continues to improve academically regardless of conference. The AAC isnt ideal, but Tulane, SMU and Houston certainly are good academic company.
Playing BB against Memphis,Cincy and Temple , as well as an OOC schedule that includes Texas, Ohio St and most likely Gtown and Nova helps them athletically.

My point basically is there is enough academic and athletic prestige in the AAC for Uconn to tolerate for the time being

You really hit the nail on the head with this one.

Some football schools were worse than others. Obviously the collusion between Miami and BC was despicable. After they left West Virginia was the worst. Those 3 have always been football-first schools and it showed.

OTOH, I thought that Syracuse was always a reluctant partner in that enterprise. Boeheim made it clear throughput that he preferred to stay with the basketball schools. UConn was never one who blamed the C7 for the conference's problems either. Pitt was not as vocal as West Virginia but they were clearly on the football side of things and then when they left for the ACC while their president was telling everyone the opposite, they put themselves in the Fredo category. Rutgers and Louisville just stumbled along until they stepped in shit. Like Syracuse, Louisville valued the basketball partnership with the East and if Pitino had his way, they'd probably still be here. Cindy was meh.

Norte Dame deserves a special comment. They really disappointed me. They should have been a natural partner with the C7. They never blamed the C7 for the football problems and stuck up for our interests. But in the end they did what ND always does - look out for ND's interests by charting their own course.

Bottom line is that hate for the football schools who blamed the C7 should be reserved for Miami, BC, West Virginia, and Pitt. West Cirginia is the one who hot under my skin the most. Some fans from other football schools could be obnoxious, but I never thought their administrations were a problem for the C7

I'll be honest, originally I wanted UConn to join our conference. It would no doubt bring UConn back to the platform it deserved, give UConn tons of good teams to play to keep their RPI respectable even in down years, and give them more chances at ranked wins. It would also shut up anyone who would claim the Big East is not a major conference anymore. It clearly still is, but UConn joining would shut them up for good.

But then UConn fans turned on the Big East. They started acting like Yankees fans too busy counting past rings to realize what was going on. UConn was a dynasty and so were the Yanks. Both fanbases just assumed they'd keep winning big because why not? Then the Yankees lost their core 4 and all the studs from that dynasty era. They have not and will never be the same. UConn lost their HOF coach, HOF coach's players, and the conference that gave them their platform and prestige. They are now trending down just like the Yanks. Yet when that gets brought up, all we hear is "How many rings do you have?!". Yes UConn won a lot. And it's deserved...it's impressive. But who cares about rings when you are now in the AAC all in for football? UConn giving up on basketball is like Harvard giving up on academic rigor. You stick to what you are good at and what you are known for. UConn had pipe dreams of becoming the next Ohio State and got blinded by the prospect of big money. They have now become a cautionary tale about what happens when you try to be something you're not. UConn now risks rapid irrelevance. The longer you stay in the AAC, the longer your prestige tarnishes. Every passing year is 1 year further than your last ring. The only reason UConn can recruit like this in the AAC is because of what they did in the Big East. But if they keep this up, they will stop coming.

UConn fans think they are above everyone. They think they ran through the Big East which is not true at all. Yes you won a lot of rings, but most if not all of the times you did, it was in a miracle run getting hot in the tourney. I remember one regular season UConn was .500 in conference play. So you didn't steamroll our conference. You just had more tournament success than others and knew how to get hot at the right time. You were a clutch team and always had that go to guy to save you. Now you guys have your noses in the air and try to bash our conference that is not even in the same discussion as the AAC. You assume you will get into a F5 school with zero evidence. You picked football and now you are paying for it. We stuck to basketball (what we know) and thus found success. If you are ever willing to park your football elsewhere or get rid of it, give us a call. But as long as you try to be a major football school and don't get a F5 invite, RIP UConn.

Why so much UConn hate?

Such an easy question to answer.

The vast majority of their fans are insecure dbags. They picked it up from Jim Calhoun apparently.

Honestly what secure person starts a self flagellating thread like this.

It might as well be titled, "why do you hate me so much"

Surprise, surprise...another salty Providence fan. UCONN is brought up often on this board. Look no farther than the "AAC and UCONN denial" or "Conference of the Americas....one bid" threads. It's too bad many Friar fans here can't have a discussion without hurling personal insults.

Not sure what the heat is between UConn/PC but it's apparently very real.

Honesty I don't hate UConn... I feel for the fanbase being stuck playing teams that don't care about basketball. Also I think some of the hate might potentially come from AAC fan boys who think they are some tweener conference and say phrases like G4.

Looking forward to the 23rd
