Also while that "The Godfather" post is pretty funny I gotta say it's pretty stuck in the 90s and makes no mention of all the championships, final fours etc that UConn did win. I don't like them but like it or not they alone have more success than any of our schools and more championships (in 15years!) than our entire conference combined.

Respectfully disagree MUboxer. Providence is a 45 minute drive from Storrs and they travel well. If they invade you arena you will see that the post by the Godfather is timeless.

Disagree with which part? That it ignores the fact that UConn was, by far, the most successful team in the Big East (say what you want about the 80s no other big east team had 4 titles) and did it over 15 years? I'm not arguing the fans suck, or that Calhoun was a Dbag but saying "they didn't play UMass" when they played plenty of other very tough teams and had loads of success, is just fishing for reasons to hate on them.

I can relate to the whole fans that believe basketball was started in the 90s thing, it rings true with Wisconsin fans that believe basketball was started in 94 or 99 pending on who you talk to. But that doesn't mean I'm gonna take away from the fact they've had enormous success since. Credit where credit is due.

I have come to conclusion that most of the dislike is centered around the Providence fans and Connecticut fans. But overall I don't see a lot of hate towards Connecticut from Big East conference members as a whole. I'm a fan of Connecticut also but we have to admit that even though Connecticut didn't get into a Power-5, they badly wanted to get into one. They are as guilty as those that left in destroying the Old Big East conference. I guess there is always going to be hard feelings in regards to that break up

There is also those Connecticut fans that refuse to admit that the Big East basketball conference of today is much more competitive than the AAC. They also make it seem like the Big East is going to die tomorrow. That denial is enough to piss off a lot of Big East fans. I'm a big Big East basketball fan and watch pretty much all B.E games on FS1. The AAC is only watch when Connecticut is playing

UConn won't ask back in until and unless their program has fallen so far that it's no longer in our best interest to take them.

UConn is a microcosm of the football hubris that destroyed the Superconference Era Big East. The Big East from 2005 to 2013 was arguably the greatest conference in the history of college basketball. Full stop. In 2011, the Big East sent 11 teams to the NCAA Tournament. UConn finished NINTH in the Big East that year, and won the national championship. Its only losses were in the league. In short, Big East basketball was Top 25-clash appointment television seemingly every night.

However, UConn upgraded its football program from irrelevant D-IAA (now FCS) to mediocre FBS. This pursuit of nonexistent football glory not only sacrificed the prestige of its basketball program (as evident by its current conference affiliation), but also the Big East. Because of the conference's implosion chasing invisible football dollars, the reformed Big East has to hear "Oh well it's not the same as the old Big East because you used to have UConn...."

UConn squandered their legacy on magic beans. They helped burn the house down, and now wonder why we're mad at the arsonist.
Al McGuire: "What is this?"
Waiter: "Mr. McGuire, that is a cull lobster. Sometimes when the lobsters are in the tank, they fight. This one lost a claw."
Al McGuire: "Well then take this one away and bring me the winner."

Part of the strength of the new Big East is that all ten schools, being similar institutions, are on the same page with athletics. None of the schools want to be in another conference because the schools do not want to travel down the same road where football-focused schools are driving the bus. We control our fate, and we are in the absolute best non-football conference in the country.

UConn, not just being a public school, but also having an FBS football program, will ALWAYS want more (whether they are stuck in the AAC or under unique circumstance rejoin the Big East). Their end goal is a power football conference. Our ten schools are at our destination - there is no getting any higher (realistically). Why we, our ten schools, would want to reopen Pandora's Box again with a football school (yes, they are now considered a football school) like UConn is extremely counterproductive to the strength and unity of our conference.

I'd much rather our conference look at programs that either bring an immediate gain, as a like-minded institution, like a Dayton - who has developed into (arguably) the top basketball program in the Atlantic-10, or a long-term gain, or like a Saint Louis - which provides a huge TV/media/recruiting market, academics and basketball facilities. (Not right now, however).

The posters on the Boneyard mostly bash the Big East. They are now hoping for an invite from the Big 12. Good luck with that.

Interesting that most of the negative replies here come from Providence fans...

Here's my response to a few "reasons":

1. "UConn's President was being a pain, publicly campaigning for an ACC-invitation when we were supposed to show some solidarity as a conference", "They helped burn the house down, and now wonder why we're mad at the arsonist." - Pitt and Syracuse were the ones with shady behind-the-scenes deals. Had they never bolted to the ACC, the old Big East could have had a chance. Their departure created the domino effect. UCONN cannot be held responsible for responding to the chaos and wanting a landing spot (to avoid its current situation).

2. "UConn would need to split the shares that it accumulated when the BE split, with the so called Catholic 7 which surrendered them" - I'm pretty sure UCONN doesn't owe anything given the amount of tourney credits the Huskies earned themselves during their time in the Big East. If anything, DePaul, St Johns, and Seton Hall owe the Huskies.

3."UCONN won't agree to a true home-and-home with Providence" - UCONN never really had any kind of rivalry with Providence. Despite the close distance, it was never a "must see" game. There's a reason why UCONN is playing Georgetown and in talks with Nova. I would also like to see Marquette on the future schedule. Those were the C7 schools with deep tourney runs the past few decades of the Big East - peer institutions.

4. "Calhoun not likeable" - I was not a Calhoun fan myself. Knowing him personally, I would call him an asshat, but he is no longer the coach. Most college basketball fans don't dislike UMass because Calipari used to be the coach there.
