AAC and UConn Denial

A few things, I'm not a fan of the AAC or UConn by any means and it's nice to trash them but honestly I'm quite certain any school in this conference would sell their left arm to have the 4 championships over 15 years let alone 5 final fours in 15. Yes we all have great tradition but in 15 years UConn's blew every team's out of the water. Quite frankly if I was arguing with a fan of a school that hadn't won a championship and who's leg to stand on was "yeah but in our conference you were doing good now you won't and we beat you last two times" I'd laugh in their face to.

Shame too. They really built up a nice program off the backboard of the Big East and the major media markets in their region. I don't expect them to go back to their pre-Big East days, but I do think that Cincy in C-USA under Huggins is their new plateau.

That's not exactly a bad ceiling man. Cinci had loads of times being ranked number 1 in the country and some great runs. They were complete thugs, but they were still good and better than Marquette or Louisville in that stretch.

UCon did all that with Calhoun and Calhoun's players. Now that there's a new sherif in town, time will tell.

Temple is doing it's best imitation of Atlantic 10 Temple. Lose all of your significant Out of Conference games, screw up the RPI then start trashing other teams in the league.

A smart move for them would be to every year use 5 of their OOC slots for the 5 east coast big east teams, home away series, and make sure two of those games are weekends in jan or feb. That way they retain some connection with the northeast instead of being relegated to the conference of americans outposts.

They won't give PC a home/away series. We are beneath them (even though we basically split games with them during their good years).

They will look to Georgetown, Villanova and St. John's. They are bigger brand names and sit in better recruiting areas.

They would be idiotic not to give PC a home/away series. It is an easy trip for their fans. PC plays in a fantastic venue close to their fan base. PC has a media package where you could probably get that game on BIG FOX if they did it on a weekend. And it would generate more local buzz in southern new England than every single one of their Conference of Americans games.

I do think Nova is starting up a series with UConn next year. But UConn is the needy one in this situation. Not because the program is struggling, but rather because they are becoming geographically isolated. College sports are inherently regional and you have to establish the ties in your region to keep the program strong.

My understanding is UConn already turned PC down. That might change at some point, but as of now they would rather play national programs (Texas, Ohio State, etc.) and then the three mentioned from the BE.

I do agree with you. I have been to PC/UConn games in Providence and in both Hartford and Storrs. The atmosphere was always great and at times electric (such as when Gomes was battling Okafor).

Yep. Somewhat past history, but have little desire to bring that kind of garbage into the house.

They're past the point of no return at this stage. They're committed to football first and foremost - it's the only way they can get out of the AAC.

It's kind of ironic/funny. The only thing keeping them from a spot in the B1G and ACC is Houston/Temple/ECU/Memphis/Cincinnati/UCF/USF/SMU/Tulane/Tulsa, their supposed conference mates - who are likewise trying to abandon the AAC ship in favor of a power conference invite. The only unity within the conference is that everyone is out for themselves so that they can get out.

UConn is a dead man walking in that hot mess of Conference of Americans. I caught a little of their game against Tulane recently, what a depressing image. It looked like one of those cupcake OOC games where nobody cared or was interested and should have only been aired on interweb stream.

You do understand that Cincy in C-USA under Huggins got a #1 seed- and would have gone far had it not been for a bad injury....

I don't think UConn is going to crash and burn like BC when they moved to the ACC, and what appears to be the future of Syracuse.

I think UConn will dominate the Conference of Americans. Problem is, that will never really lead to much perception-wise beyond perhaps a Cincy/Huggins-like existent. Good team, but no real rivals, no real story lines, just a good team out on an island.

UConn's recruiting class for 2016 looks quite good. As long as they can recruit like that and keep Kevin Ollie I wouldn't count them out.

PC UConn should have a series home and home. After BC of all the temas that were once in the BE UConn makes the most sense for PC to play. I think it also makes sense for UConn to play PC as well. UConn should be scheduling STJ and PC at minimum/
Im not going to speculate on UConn thinking they are above PC. We do share a conference in more than one sport currently. i think once things settle UConn PC will be back on table
