Conference of the Americas......one-bid

Postby Edrick » Wed Dec 23, 2015 8:09 am

Was just taking a look at the conference with Cincinnati's loss last night against Iowa State, they just aren't going to have enough.

Maybe they can set UConn up for a fall in the AAC tournament, but barring that, the AAC is looking at being a one-bid league. (Not unlike CUSA who semi-ironically could get a couple)

Looking at Cincy's RPI stuff- if they get at least 12 wins in conference they'll be fine. 22-9 12-6 is RPI of 39.5 with #71 SOS. That's a lock.

Oh, and CUSA has ZERO chance of an at large bid. their top RPI team projected is #60. The conference is #21 projected. No chance in heck they get an at large.

Even worse than their on court performance is the way their games are completely buried in interweb streams. Outside of a handful of Cincy games and one UConn game to g along with the thanksgiving tourneys, have hey been televised at all?

They are dying the death of a thousand razors.

the thing that is amazing to think about....

AAC has had 12 games they've lost by 4 points or fewer.
BE has had 12 games they've won by 4 points or fewer.

if those 12 games go differently for either conference- things could be so different. but like what Bill Parcells says- you are what your record says you are.

I said it once and I'll say it again. The "American" put football shit in its basketball bed, so now they can sleep in it.

When the Catholic 7 announced their intention to reform the Big East, I always pictured those 7 schools as grabbing the last lifeboat off the Titanic, with UConn, Cincinnati, USF, and Temple assuming the part of the string quartet playing "Nearer my God to Thee" as they went down with the ship.

Al McGuire: "What is this?"
Waiter: "Mr. McGuire, that is a cull lobster. Sometimes when the lobsters are in the tank, they fight. This one lost a claw."
Al McGuire: "Well then take this one away and bring me the winner."

The thing that's funny- the other 7 while not great by any stretch of the imagination....
SMU 10-0 #12 RPI
Houston 9-2 #165 RPI
Memphis 8-3 #131 RPI
Tulsa 8-4 #83 RPI
ECU 8-5 #183 RPI
UCF 6-4 #242 RPI
Tulane 7-6 #286 RPI
yeah UCF and Tulane blow pretty bad. But it's not the killer that folks here want to make it out to be.

but look at the other 4-
Cincy 10-3 only #74 RPI
UConn 7-3 only #93 RPI
Temple 5-5 #114 RPI
USF 3-10 #237 RPI

If Cincy, UConn, and Temple had taken care of business, they'd be in no problem at all. Cincy had a 4 game OOC schedule, and went 1-3 with that. The rest of their schedule is bad. UConn has had 3 losses as well, with 2 more tough OOC games left(at least I hope it's 2 with one being Georgetown). Temple had the 1 tough loss to St joe's. They probably over-scheduled to some degree.

That's what happens when you sacrifice basketball for mid-major football (who is currently 0-2 in bowl season        )

Oh no doubt. those close games mean so much. The AAC has gotten better, no matter what folks here want to think. Last year they had 5 teams 200 or worse. This year only 2. What's happened though is their top teams haven't held up their end of the bargin.
