I hope X makes the final four, I truly do. But it's all about seeding and location. If X get's sent across country and faces a matchup nightmare they don't win. I also think being on the verge of a school's first Final Four has to add some type of unbelievable pressure that makes it tough. If X couldn't do it with West and two other draft picks then I'd be shocked if they did it with this team.

follow ups
re: judging OU on last year, I did see them play live twice and when it comes to basketball I'm a pretty quick study. Xavier has more talent.

re: Hield is a man among boys, so aren't Reynolds and Bluitt.

re: other comments, I agree with the 1 poster or posters mentioning championship basketball will include several 1 and 2 possession games and at this point no one knows how X will react in those pressure situations because they've not been really tested but they have plenty of talent to handle critical possessions.

Not to be argumentative, but I think you're way underrating Cousins, Woodard, and Spangler. I've seen both teams play at least a handful of times this year they both go about 10 deep with all 10 contributing. Oklahoma shoots 47.7% from 3, I think it's pushing it to say X has more talent.

Hield is a lotto pick, no disrespect to Reynolds or Bluiett, but either of them would be a 2nd rounder at best at this point.

Because X has only made it to the Elite 8 un the past, with other good players on their team, you would be shocked if they made a Final Four run this year?

What type of twisted logic is that?

Good enough to ranked #6 in today's coaches' poll (link: http://sportspolls.usatoday.com/ncaa/basketball-men/polls/coaches-poll/).
Xavier will surprise. Never count them out of the Dance.

X is good. Point blank good. There are people who are somewhat surprised but I am certainly not at all. Xavier may be the most solid program in the league. They are consistent performers every year. They were good on the A-10 and the move to the Big East and into the bigger markets have made them even better. I am not all all surprised that it is approaching the last week of December and Xavier is a top ten team. If you are playing in the NCAA tourny, my bet is the team you don't want to see in your bracket from the Big East the most is Xavier.

Preseason, I picked them 2nd in the league (behind Nova), and even I feel foolish for underrating them.

David West was a great player! But your logic doesn't hold water, During his time, X was 2-4 in the NCAA tournament. They advanced to the round of 32 his junior and senior year. The year after he gradurated they made their second Sweet 16 (the other being 1990) and their first elite eight. if it wasn't for a coaching mistake to leave Anthony Miles in when he picked up his fourth foul, and pro duke officiating. X would have made the final four.
