Who cares about this little rpi fractions? Oh, Stever dies because he cannot seen he big picture (or he can but as a resident troll he always has to argue against reality)

RPI is important to get our teams into the NCAAs. We don't wanna have those weak teams in the RPI that will bring the top teams down. It matters. I'm surprised you are disregarding how important the RPI is when it comes to selection.

The league was actually better in the RPI last year and that's why it got six bids. This year the bottom of the league has crapped out starting with the Monmouth/Incarnate word loses. Our worst teams shouldn't be losing to mid-major/low major conferences. It shouldn't happen. No way around it

No doubt it shouldn't be happened. But with regards to NCAA selection. You get what you deserve. I think the selection committee has been more than fair to the Big East these last 2 years. So if a team doesn't get in then its their fault.

But fact is, St. Johns was hosting multiple 5 star recruits for that Cuse game. Beating your in-state rival at MSG really couldn't have been a better showcase. And ultimately we need St. John's to be good for this conference to be strong. So I still wouldn't trade that win away for a better rpi.

1 thing that I think is amazing.
2014 OOC record... 94-31
2015 OOC record... 94-31
2016 OOC record projected right now... 94-31

I don't know that I've ever heard of anything as crazy as that.

Yeah, but in the grand scheme of things you are likely overreacting to the rpi impact. It doesn't really matter if St. John's is 139 or 160 rpi at the end of the day. It's not an good win either way. And it's actually looking like they will end up in the low 200's anyway. No difference between 219 or 240. Don't be like Stever and overreact to every game a team loses.

Of course we would all rather the johnnies and depaul won these games. But they didn't. But it's not the end of the world because what's important is that our top teams avoid the slip ups. And the big win against cuse was plenty for St. John's to hang their hat in this yr. St. John's is nyc' steam, and that is more important than a few spots in the rpi for them at the end of the day.

Ball, you just don't understand the RPI impact...

home games- count as 0.6 wins but 1.4 losses. by losing the 2, it's 2.8 losses, not 2 losses.

so like right now....
their RPI record is 3.6-5.4. or .400.

if they had lost to Syr but had won the other 2.... their RPI record would be 4.2-4 or .513.

That's a HUGE difference. Remember your opponents record counts 50% of the RPI. For a team like a Marquette who needs all the help they can get, it's not good.

oh and they weren't looking like a 200 RPI team. They were looking before this weekend like a 165ish RPI team with a good shot to get up around 150. This weekend could easily be a long term 30+ RPI spot difference.

Also, they now are in the level where they are a rpi killer even if you beat them. They weren't before that.

This weekend the conference had 10 games..... by w-l record went 4-6. by RPI record, went 2.8-6.8. 3 home wins and a neutral court win against 2 away losses, and 4 home losses.

From ESPN (yes, hard to believe):

Is the Big East the pound-for-pound king of college basketball?

Right now, yes. The conference might earn the crown that the Big Ten and Big 12 have traded in recent years. It’s a true gauntlet right now in the Big East. Saturday proved as much.

Xavier stayed perfect with a 24-point victory over Auburn. Butler scored 74 points against a Purdue team that’s ranked first in KenPom.com’s defensive efficiency ratings. Seton Hall defeated a Wichita State squad that was coming off a 17-point victory over Utah. Villanova lost to Virginia but never quit on the road against a national championship contender. Georgetown lost to UNC-Asheville on Saturday, and Incarnate Word defeated St. John’s on Friday, so it’s not all wonderful in the Big East. But with Marquette rising, Providence evolving into a more dangerous unit every week and the rest of conference prospering, this is clearly one of the strongest leagues in America.
