Yeah, stevers ratings aren't out of line, I think it's his inclusion of a team who is ineligible for post season that is getting him some grief. Honestly if it was a BE team in that situation I find it hard to believe he would be inclined to include them. I think anyone who is being honest would admit that SMU is pretty damn good, they are also pretty damn irrelevant to the big picture this year.

The thing about SMU(and any team that isn't eligible)- playing them is still playing a top team. So say AAC team beats them. That's going to be a huge win for them- and would be treated by the committee as a huge win.

I never take out an ineligible team btw.

the other thing that I would say regarding SMU/probation- really there's only 2 places that doesn't include SMU. That's the coaches poll and the NCAA tournament. Everywhere else they're on any lists/ratings.

I want to say they're #14.

Won't last though. next 4 opponents are 8-20 with a 6-1 team included. They have 7 of 23 teams left that have a winning record(and 4 of those are 3-2 right now).

Why? They are 80th in Kenpom and 65th in Sagarin Ratings. Except for the game against DePaul, their margin of victory against bad teams has not been impressive.

Really?! You can't understand why, on a metric that purportedly ranks all the teams in DI Basketball, it would raise a red flag that any team was left out of the metric, let alone a team that is undefeated and just played a BE team?

It is sad you are worried more about their margin of victory than the fact that they were entirely left out of the equation


Notice now that he has added them in they are ranked 4th in his metric.

I misread and thought you were referring to them not being in the top 10 in Stever's ranking, as he responded to the initial post and he only listed a top 10 in the OP. I didn't notice their complete exclusion because I thought you were just talking about the more minor omission. Concerning the initial omission, it's actually quite easy when doing coding for a 351-row dataset for one row to accidentally drop out. One bracket in the wrong place or one word misspelled, and it might not even propagate an official error.
