I don't hate Willard nearly as much as most, but my dream scenario involves letting him go at the end of the season and poaching Danny Hurley from Rhode Island. If anyone can keep NJ's top recruits at home, it's a Hurley.

I didn't list Willard as a quality coach (nor did I Leitao). I would be ecstatic for Seton Hall if they got Danny Hurley after the season. THAT would be a home run hire in the vein of Mullin, Wojo.

I admit I don't follow the logic of why expansion was included by the original poster.

I had the same reaction when I read the end of the post. Furthermore, I have yet to meet a Xavier fan who is favor of expansion.

Always interesting to me that when these types of topics come up lately, PC is always lumped in with the "hopefully they can compete for a tourney birth every few years group" but never in the "consistently in the upper half of the league group". I guess it has to do with the the results of the past 20 years, but Ed Cooley wasn't the coach for the past two decades. PC has made the dance every year in this new look of the BE and I am hoping that continues this season.

PC is also annually picked lower than their final landing spot every preseason (on this board and usually in the official preseason polls). How are they going to replace Bryce Cotton? How will they replace Henton and Harris because Dunn can't do it alone?

I'll admit that I anticipate a step back next year with the loss of Dunn. But I wonder at what point Cooley gets the benefit of the doubt like some coaches do (some who have not even proven themselves long term as head coaches).

It actually doesn't bother me as a fan at all and part of me thinks Cooley likes playing from the "overlooked" position. But I do think it's interesting.

This is how 7 teams can get in this year (or something similar)
1. Villanova 16-2.
2. Xavier 15-3.
3. Georgetown 12-6.
4. Marquette 10-8.
5. Seton Hall 10-8.
6. Butler 8-10.
7. Providence 8-10.
8. Creighton 7-11.
9. DePaul 2-16.
10. St John's 2-16.

I actually don't think this is the yr for us to get 7 with some sub-.500 teams, but of course it could happen in a ten team league. Despite what trolley stever says.

Butler would be extremely iffy. A lot would hinge on this weekend.... Their projected OOC SOS is 206.
18-12- projected RPI is 69.4
19-11- projected RPI is 56.7

Marquette even at 10-8 is no lock. Their projected RPI is 72.6 even at 21-10. They have 5 300+ rpi teams on their schedule.

And sorry, but no way will DePaul and St John's both be only 2-16.

It can happen, but for the 6th and 7th place teams, they have to have an airtight case. The OOC schedule can't suck. If the teams that are in that middle level continue to schedule 200-300 in the country, it won't happen though.

I think we'll get 5 in, but the 6th or 7th team scenarios aren't too far off. If PC beats Rider and UMass, then finishes 6th, that means 6 teams probably get bids.

The nice thing this season is that we can all just root for good basketball, and let things play themselves out, and we've got 5 bids in the bag pretty much.

One other point of emphasis...

The Big East is a year ahead of schedule. Next year the league as a whole will be even better, especially if Ellenson sticks around 1 more year. Maybe Kris Dunn is charting a new path for top college players, showing that with an extra college season players can work on their games in a low pressure atmosphere and improve their draft stock.

I don't think I would say 5 in the bag. if top 4 are X, Nova, Butler, and PC in any order obviously all 4 are easily in. Georgetown should get in, but they need 8 conference wins bare minimum. With how loaded the conference is- that's easier said than done. Marquette, Seton Hall, and Creighton must get 10 wins to have any shot.

The thing also- right now, PC has given no indication they're finishing 6th. Same with Butler. The 3 most questionable teams in the 6-8 range are Marquette, Seton Hall, and Creighton.
