NovaBall -- You mentioned X's Edwin Sumner as a great Freshman. He was actually a member of last year's X class, along with Trevon Bluitt, JP Macura, Sean O'Meara, Larry Austin, and Makinde London (now how's that for a Freshman class with only 1 4-star recruit?!) But then, oh shucks, he grew 6", developed severe tendonitis in his legs, and had to take a medical redshirt year. X also redshirted London, so now the team is well balanced regarding classes -- Far and Abell are Seniors, Reynolds and Davis are Juniors, Bluitt and Macura and O'Meara and Austin are sophomores, and Sumner and London and Gates (the only true Freshman on the team) are Freshmen. There's also a 3 man class, all 4-star recruits, coming in for next season, and ESPN ranks that group at #17. X has never had a 5 star recruit as far as I know, but we've gotten a few 4 stars since moving up to the BEAST, and we have a long history of finding great underrated 3 star players (like Dee Davis, David West - who is our only national POY, Brian Grant, and going waay back -- Byron Larkin and Tyrone Hill.)

Sumner and Mikal bridges are both red shirt freshmen. Both are pretty impressive early.

The red shirt is not the worst idea. Bridges wasn't going to get into the rotation last yr as he was still too skinny and nova was loaded at that position. So now we get another year on the back end out of him.

When jayvaughn Pinkston was a fresh he got suspended for the year. Actually ended up working out because he was pretty good last yr.

I'm guessing you meant Edmond Sumner, not Edwin. We actually have had five-star recruits here and there. Semaj Christon was one, for example.
