DePaul has done nothing, absolutely nothing, in men's basketball since getting invited into the Big East in 2005. One winning season, one appearance in the NIT. Nine losing seasons, six seasons with three or fewer wins in Big East play.

For comparison's sake, Temple won 16 games during their 14-year run in the Old Big East before the football schools kicked them out, going 14-80 against the Big East schools. Since 2008, DePaul has gone 16-110 in Big East play. Let that sink in. DePaul was worse in Big East men's basketball than Temple was in Big East football, and Temple was kicked out.

To say that DePaul doesn't have a chance of being kicked out of the Big East may very well be accurate - but they are worse competitively than the only other school to be kicked out of the Big East.

I do agree that DePaul needs a serious kick in the ass and the AD needs to go. But we don't need threads calling them out every time they lose. It's completely unrealistic to expect the BE presidents to kick DePaul out after 2 years and a month.

No offense but DePaul has been in the BE for a generation.....and they had an equal vote to let the other three in.....

I'm not a DePaul fan so no offense taken. Yes DePaul has sucked for a while now but we formed this new league with them just a couple years ago. Legally this is a new league and they played an equal part in forming it. We can't kick them out for 2 years of mediocrity.

Seriously why the need to bully DePaul on this forum? Every league has at least one doormat. The league is doing fantastic. If you don't follow DePaul be glad your team is doing well. This forum doesn't make any decisions on who will be in the league so all it's doing is isolating DePaul fans.

Novaball did you used to freak out about rutgers this much? what about seton hall when it seemed they were as bad as depaul? Like honestly what snapped in your head that suddenly you're on this anti depaul tirade? Apply for a job and a depaul grad turn you down or something?

I posted this on a similar thread on VU Benchwarmers ...

Every conference needs teams to finish in the bottom of the conference. Every team cannot be good or the whole conference will finish 9-9 and only 1-2 teams will go to the tournament. Why do people care if DePaul sucks? Some team has to finish last. It would be nice if DePaul didn't lose all of their OOC games as that would help all BigEast team's RPI but that isn't realistic either. It is unlikely a team will be awesome out of conference and patsy once conference play starts.

The BigEast cannot have 10 good teams nor should we want that. I am happy with 5-6 tourney teams in a 10 team league with Villanova being one of them. There needs to be some relief once conference play starts, DePaul, and this year it looks like St. John's and Creighton will provide it although I suspect @Creighton will still be a tough game.

Depauls mens BB may be struggling but depaul offers more than just mbb. Many of their other sports are competitive, they are located in a large market and have name brand recognition. Being the largest Catholic university in the country also helps. not everything is about athletic success. Look at Rutgers. They werent exactly a dominant player in the BE in either FB or BB yet they are got the golden ticket and are in the B10.
I believe depaul will eventually overcome their issues and will be a force in the near future. Chicago is too valuable to even consider dumping depaul

Well if that's not damning with faint praise.

I know that DePaul is not going to get kicked out. This is a hypothetical. And it is a good question.

Couple points though:

Someone brought up the Illinois attendance yesterday in Chicago . Just over 5,000? That actually shows me that Chicago is not Illini country stronghold and DePaul could make some noise.

Also, the stadium is huge. Absolutely huge. Unfortunately it is like eight years away from having an impact, but it is huge.

The real problem is the institutional issues. And it's not even institutional support, as they have the operating budget and pay enough. It's the decision makers and the people involved.

But in the bright side, it's easy to change the people involved. Just have to do it.

Yes, I hated Rutgers in the old big east. Thought they were a complete disgrace.

And back when the big east was looking at wild expansion prior to the complete upheaval I thought maybe shu needed to go.

I don't know any DePaul grads. I think they would generally be working for nova grads though, but why go there in the discussion?

Because the hate you spew makes it seem like it goes beyond basketball so I had to guess there was something else there.
