As for our ooc since the beginning of the 13-14 season Nova is 32-2 in the ooc regular season. Those 2 losses? @ #2 Syracuse and just the other day to #6(and under rated)Oklahoma. That's it, again so we're clear, 32-2 ooc since the beginning of the 13-14 season with wins against #2 Kansas, #23 Iowa, #14 VCU, #19 Michigan, Syracuse, Illinois, Georgia Tech, Stanford, and not even mentioning our Big 5 games which aren't easy even if we make them look that way most of the time. Not to mention our 32-4 record in BE, so call it what you will, I'll call it pretty damn impressive.

I will call that not good enough for Stever!!!

As a Xavier fan, I have nothing but awe and respect for our "Big Brother" Villanova. The posts on this thread are silly. Nova has been a top 10 team for 3 years! I think i could tell you, three years of nova losses. Off the top of my head!

I think we get too caught up in the verbiage. Does it really matter if Villanova or anyone else is "elite" This conference was founded as a direct assault on the "elite" of college basketball. None of the original members - St. John's, Syracuse, Georgetown, Seton Hall, UConn, Providence and BC - were elite. The immediate two additions - Nova and Pitt - were not elite. That was the point. That's why fans of the Big East have always rooted for each other in the tourny and against other leagues. It has been us against them from day one. The 30 for 30 had a great quote talking about when Georgetown played North Carolina in the NCAA Championship. The voice over said for the bluebloods it was like "the barbarians at the gate." The Big East became an "Elite Conference" without "elite teams". In the first ten years we had six of the nine go to the Final Four. Two championships and four runner ups. That's how you have an elite conference. Do you think John Thompson ever cared that the Hoyas were not considered elite? Could you imagine Rollie being a bit concerned about being branded elite? Today, we are still an Elite Conference that lacks an elite team. That's not a slap at anyone and it's not a bad thing either.

Except for the fact, that you know, we only lost by 3 to NC St. Yeah they were carbon copies of each other.

Had Ennis made that 3 with under 20 seconds to go, we're probably sitting here have a different discussion. You know with some other inane criteria you went elbow deep in rectum to find to run down Nova or the BE. So what is it stever?, is March the true indicator of a team's worth(meaning that loss to Oklahoma doesn't mean squat in the grand scheme of things) or does the regular season hold significant value?(meaning your ooc rant that derail this thread just went up in smoke 32-2) You can't have it both ways. I see you get a lot of use out of those mobile goalposts mounted on swivel caster wheels.

Ummmm, against NC State they had a wide open shot for the lead with 19 seconds to play and trailed by a point in the final seconds. nova went down early, trailed by ten at the half, played pretty well in the second half but NC State controlled possession and Nova never made up from the bad first half.

That wasn't a carbon copy from the Oklahoma game. Are you smoking meth or something?
(Now is when stever makes some weird fuzzy math semantics argument to show how the games were "carbon copies")

Teams are allowed to lose basketball games. Losses happen. In 2009 Nova went to the Final Four. They got worked by Texas in that December and had a pair 20+ losses in February and March of that year. So what? In 1985, Nova won the whole thing, but had two blow out losses in their last three games entering the tournament. Losses happen in college hoops.

UConn lost by 40 pts in their final regular season game in 2014. Didn't stop them from winning the national championship.

If you are wondering why Nova fans are laughing at your attitude towards this loss, those are a couple of the reasons.

He can't, the loss to NC St. came down to missed bunnies and 2 pt FG%. We were 9-28 on 3's(32.1%) not great but not bad either. What killed us was going 10-33 from inside the arc. Remember Chef missing 2 dunks and like 3 other lay-ups? We missed at least 7-8 bunnies or lay-ups in that game. Also they out rebounded us by 13, that's the game in a nutshell. Hardly a carbon copy of the Oklahoma game.

The only real similarity was that Nova had a tough time forcing turnovers against both NC State and Oklahoma's experienced backcourts, but that was more of an issue in the NC State game in the wolf pack preventing a second half come back.

But hey, stever is stever, so he is going to ramble and use fuzzy math and move goalposts and all sorts of other stever things.

Sorry but 32-2 with only 6 top 50 games isn't that impressive. 4-4 against good OOC teams in the last 3 years just doesn't impress me at all. With all of the losses Nova shooting themselves right out of the game. Nova relies WAY too much on the 3. You live by the 3, you die by the 3.
4-32 vs Oklahoma
9-28 vs NC State
11-31 vs UConn
10-31 vs Syracuse

And frankly- the OOC and March issues are very much related because they are against OOC teams.

Sorry, but Nova just isn't an elite team to me. They are in that second group of teams. There aren't that many teams in the elite class to me.

and just found the NCAA selection sheets from last year...
Nova's SOS was #70 OOC. Of the top 25, 8 were weaker than they were. Top 50 teams, they were #26 in SOS OOC.

Sorry stever as usual your argument isn't that impressive and has been ripped to shreds by several including me already on this thread. Thought you were going to let it die, no you just had to wait for a mod to approval your weak ass regurgitated shit info post. You might want to take the hint, most people wouldn't stick around on a board where their posts needed to be approved before being shown. Guess you're just really obtuse. Isn't it about time for you to move your goalposts again? Oh, wait a sec, you did. Man you get a lot of use out of those mobile goalposts of yours.

sorry, I think I saw on this thread that several people agreed with me that Nova wasn't an elite team. Guess you didn't read the thread then.

You can act like 32-2 is impressive, and it does sound impressive, but when you are playing only 6 top 50 teams, it's not. Some teams play like 5 in a year. Kansas played 5 last year. Kentucky played 6(and played RPI 51). UNC played 6. Duke played 5(and played RPI 52 St John's). Some of it isn't Nova's fault, I'll give you that. Didn't know that Michigan wouldn't be good. Syracuse. But it cuts both ways. I know they play them every year, but was Temple expected to be #33 last year in the RPI? I sure don't think so. But the fact is that Nova's OOC schedule has turned out to be pretty mediocre especially the last 2 years. 70 last year and 83 projected this year. Of the projected top 25 RPI teams, it's #16- same as last year(though like Oklahoma is worse than them right now, but still has their tournament left which will likely push them ahead of Nova). Where I think Nova gets hurt is that they aren't really seeing a lot of good teams in the OOC schedule, with the different styles. Then they get in the tourney, and they haven't seen anyone like NC State last year. You can't look at the Nova schedule this year(especially knowing how weak the NIT was this year)- and say that Nova scheduled tough. The Gavitt games opponent of Nebraska just killed them IMO.

Frankly a big part of their problem is the Big 5. St Joe's 72, La Salle 249, Penn 297, Temple 148 this years projected ratings. That I guess is never going away, but it's killing them. Think about it. You have with that like next year- 4 Big 5 games, the Charleston Classic. So right there you have 7 OOC games out of 13 scheduled. of those 7, 5 aren't home. So the other 6 games pretty much have to be at home. Next year 1 of those is Virginia.

It'll be interesting to see how Nova plays at Virginia next week. if Nova wants any prayer of a #1 seed, they pretty much must win that game.
